SOUTH BEND - Emma L. Buell, 85, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 5:17 PM Monday, April 14, 2008, in Hospice House, South Bend. She worked for the former National Bank, which she enjoyed. Mrs. Buell was born on August 27, 1922, in Watervliet, MI, to Ralph and Nora (Stewart) Picking, and had lived in the area most of her life.

 

On January 1, 1941, in Mishawaka, IN, she married Eldon D. Buell, who preceded her in death on August 21, 2006. Mrs. Buell is survived by two daughters, Judith A. (Donald) Ruszkowski of South Bend and Andrea L. (Joseph M.) Zappia of Mishawaka; one son, Larry E. (Linda) Buell of Osceola; seven grandchildren, Scott (Cathi) Ruszkowski, Rick (Chrissy) Ruszkowski, Don Ruszkowski, Dan (Cheryl Spychalski) Ruszkowski, Michala Zappia, Damon (Nicole) Buell and Kari (Jason) Nelson; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Corol "Dudley" (Harriet) Picking of Mishawaka. One sister, Norma Leslie, and a brother, Carl Picking, preceded her in death. Mr. and Mrs. Buell renewed their marriage vows in October 1961. Mrs. Buell had been a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, South Bend, since 1965, American Legion Auxiliary, and TOPS at the Battell Center. After retirement, she and Eldon spent many winters in Florida. She was a loving wife, special mom, grandma, friend and wonderful mother-in-law. She loved to make people laugh with her funny sense of humor and quick wit. Her favorite pastimes were feeding the wild birds and watching the Chicago White Sox.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 18, 2008, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 805 S. 29th Street, South Bend, IN. Rev. Steven D. Latzke, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial and graveside services will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, IN. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM today in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, and in the church one hour prior to services on Friday.
