Genie L. Bryson

Genie L. Bryson, 85, of 909 W. Indiana Avenue, Elkhart, Ind., died at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at his residence after an extended illness.

 

Mr. Bryson was preceded in death by two sisters, Massie Jimerson and Lonie May Bryson and three brothers, Willie, Percy and Irvin Bryson.

 

Genie L. Bryson, the son of the late Genie and Clara (Watson) Bryson, was born October 1, 1914, in Shaw, Miss.

 

On November 9, 1940 he married Blanche Robinson in Lula, Miss. She survives. Also surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Willie Jean (Elmer) Byers-Mayes and Mrs. Clara Ruth (Bill) Lathan both of Elkhart, and Mrs. Delores Bryson (Jerome) Jones of South Bend, Ind.; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren and by one sister, Mrs. Marie Sanders of Elkhart.

 

Mr. Bryson worked at the Elkhart Foundry for 27 years before retiring in 1973. He also worked at I.M.C. in Elkhart for 7 years and then 2 years with the Elkhart Police Department in the maintenance department.

 

Mr. Bryson was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during WW II, is a past member of the D.A.V., and was an active member of the Canaan Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home in Elkhart and for one hour prior to the funeral services on Saturday at the Canaan Baptist Church in Elkhart.

 

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Theodis Hadley officiating.

 

Burial will be in Rice Cemetery in Elkhart. The Elkhart Chapter of the D.A.V. will lead military graveside services at the cemetery.

 

Memorial donations may be made to the Canaan Baptist Church or Elkhart Community Hospice.
