Hortense B. Bingaman (Nov. 26, 1909 - April 6, 1997)

Hortense B. Bingaman, 87, of St. Paul's Retirement Community, formerly of Fellows Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 10:10 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, in St. Paul's.

She was born on Nov. 26, 1909, in Green County, Ind., and had lived most of her life in the South Bend area, coming from Green County.

As Hortense Barcroft, she married Lee C. Bingaman on Nov. 20, 1927, in Cassopolis, Mich, who preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1989.

Mrs. Bingaman is survived by two daughters and their husband's, Lydia Joan and Paul Schauwecker of Shreveport, La., Ruth and Lewis Miltenberger of Granger, Ind.; a son and his wife, Michael and Lynn Bingaman of Lakeville, Ind.; twelve grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and by two great-great-grandchildren.

Hortense had been a clerk with the South Bend Water Department for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, South Bend; Women of the Moose; and of the St. Joseph County Republican Women.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Entombment will be in the Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum.
