William Jay Bickel

NILES MI – William J. Bickel, 90, formerly of South Bend and Mishawaka, died about 6:20 p.m. Sunday in Pawating Hospital, Niles. He retired in 1967 from Bendix Corp. after 32 years of service. He was born July 21, 1899 in Mishawaka

 

In July 1960, in Chicago, he married Marie E. Willard, She died in 1985. He is survived by a son Michael of South Bend; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Dygulski of Mishawaka; and a brother Louie of Elkhart. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, South Bend, and was past commander of American Legion Post 161, Mishawaka. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Mishawaka, during World War II. He was a veteran of World War I.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, where a wake prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m.
