MISHAWAKA - Virgil J. Bickel, 72, of East Fourth Street, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday in St. Joseph Community Hospital after an illness. Mr. Bickel retired in 1980 from Uniroyal Plastics Co. after 38 years of service and was employed by Syscon International. He was born July 10, 1923, in Mishawaka. On April 3, 1945, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he married Dorothy M. . She died Feb. 16, 1991. He is survived by three sons, Lloyd of Mishawaka, Steven of Peoria, Ill., and Stanley of Osceola; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lawrence of Elkhart. He was a member of the choir of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, Eagles Arie 2083, Uniroyal Retirees Club, and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, where a parish rosary will be said at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
