Mishawaka – Ruth L. Bickel, 85, of 1841 S. Scarlet Maple Lane, Elkhart, formerly of Mishawaka, died at 9:54 a.m. Tuesday in Elkhart General Hospital. Mrs. Bickel was employed by Grant’s Department Store.

She was born April 21, 1908, in Chicago Heights, Ill., and lived in Mishawaka for 40 years. On June 30, 1934, in Mishawaka, as Ruth L. Gerlach, she married Louis A. Bickel. He survives, with a daughter, Karin A. Bickel-Wilson of Highland, Ind; a son, G. Jules Bickel of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother Harold Gerlach on Interiochen, Fla.

She was a member of Elkhart Frontiers Club, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bristol, and was a volunteer at Elkhart General Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Bubb Funeral Chapel North. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
