SOUTH BEND - Rachel Beserra, 78, passed away on Thursday,
December 25, 2008, at 11:10 p.m. in her residence. Rachel was
born on September 27, 1930, in San Marcos, TX, to the late Rafael
and Beatrice (Valadez) Gonzales Sr. She was also
preceded in death by a son, Mario Beserra and by two brothers,
Leopoldo and Luis Gonzales. In March 1954 she married Jesus
Beserra in South Bend, he survives along with their children,
Jane Aguilar of South Bend, Minnie (Tony) Cano of
South Bend, Emily Greer of South Bend, Leticia Beserra of
South Bend, Carmen Beserra of South Bend, Lorena Beserra of
Englewood, FL, Betty McDonald of Nevada, Manuel (Emma)
Beserra of South Bend, Johnny Beserra of Texas, Rafael (Angela)
Beserra of South Bend, Martin Beserra of South Bend and Victor
Beserra of South Bend; 35 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren;
and by two brothers, Alfredo Gonzales of San Marcos, Texas and
Rafael (Paula) Gonzales Jr. of South Bend. Rachel worked for
Notre Dame. She was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church and
was a loving foster mother for over 20 years.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2008, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
