Sister Mary Emma Bergin CSC

Sister Mary Emma CSC, died Thursday night in Saint Mary’s Convent. She had been retired and in failing health for several years, but had been seriously ill only a short time. She was born Ellen Bergin in Tipperary, Ireland, in 1875, She was educated in Ireland and came to the United States in 1891 to enter the Sisters of the Holy Cross. She received the habit in 1892 and made her final profession of vows in 1898. She continued her education and received her degree from St. Mary’s College. During her community life she taught in various missions in Logansport and Michigan City; St. Paul’s in New York City; St. Peter’s, St. Paul’s and St. Joseph in Washington DC; Boise, Idaho; and Cairo, Ill.

 

The requiem high mass will be sung in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at St. Mary’s with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Friends may call in the convent parlor.
