SOUTH BEND - Services for Mary E. Berger, 77, of Bowman Street, who died at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Medical Center, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Matthew Cathedral. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive, where the parish rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Monastery Immaculate Conception, Ferdinand, IN 47532.

 

Mrs. Berger was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Ferdinand. In 1938, in Cincinnati, as Mary E. Bickwermert, she married Alvin J. Berger. He died Sept. 20, 1981. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Grzesk of South Bend and Sister Mary Philip, OSB, of Ferdinand; six sons, Rick, Stephen, George and Tom, all of South Bend, Bill of Greentown, Ind., and Philip of Tracy, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; five step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Josephine Olinger of Ferdinand and Edna Sollman of Evansville, Ind. A son, Kenneth, died in 1965. She was a member of the church and Harvest House.
