MISHAWAKA - Erma Vervaet Bekaert, 87, of Burdette Street, died Monday morning in her residence. She retired in 1965 from Uniroyal Plastics. She was born July 23, 1903 in Gent, Belgium and lived in Mishawaka since 1919 coming from Belgium. On May 15, 1932, as Erma DeBaets, she married Hector Vervaet. He died in 1935. In 1936 she married Maurice Bekaert. He died Feb. 23, 1954. She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Kepler of Mishawaka and Dorothy Ciula of South Bend; a son Cyril Vervaet of South Bend; 13 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; She was preceded in death by two daughters; Jennie Vervaet in April of 1989; and Irene Kohler in April 1990.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Bavo’s Catholic Church and burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Hahn-DeVos Funeral Home
