SOUTH BEND - Virginia M. Bedics, 94, residing in South Bend, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008, in the Sanctuary at Holy Cross. She was born January 28, 1914, in South Bend, to Henry J. and Catherine (Tylka) Kaszynski, who preceded her in death as well as a sister, Hildegard Kaczmarek; brothers, Francis Kaszynski and Clement Cass; and a daughter, Cynthia Landsman. On June 9, 1968, she married Stephen Bedics, who passed away May 2, 1977. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Wisniewski, and second husband, John Carter. She is survived by her son, Tom (Mary) Wisniewski of South Bend; brother, Henry (Mary Helen) Kaszynski of Minneapolis, MN; grandsons, James (Gayle) Landsman of Grand Haven, MI, David (Jane) Wisniewski of Columbia, MO; and granddaughter, Gail (Andy) Mesecar, West Chester, IL, who all called her "Grandma Sunshine." She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren who always loved her "Busia" cookies, and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Virginia had been an active member for many years at St. Anthony's Parish, Hoosier Grandmothers Club, St. Hedwig Golden Cluster, South Bend AARP #270, and St. Anthony Harvest House. She worked for 15 years at Torrington Corp. in the office before moving with Steve Bedics to Florida for nine years. After Steve's death, she returned to South Bend and lived for 30 years in the Walnut Grove Housing Community where she enjoyed sitting on her swing on her patio and visiting with her many wonderful neighbors.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 1, in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, where visitation will occur one hour prior to Mass. Graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 31, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, 3408 Ardmore Trail, South Bend, IN 46628; or to the donor's choice.
