Howard Sidney Beatty

Howard Sidney Beatty, 82, of West Market Street, North Liberty, Ind., formerly of 22495 State Road 4, Lakeville, Ind., passed away at 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, at his home. Mr. Beatty was born on April 18, 1916, in Michigan City, Ind., to the late Elmer Dempster and Isabelle Louise (Schultz) Beatty. He had lived in Lakeville for the past 30 years, only recently moving to North Liberty to live with his daughter and son-in-law. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Alma M. Beatty; an infant son, Roger Eugene; and by his stepmother, Ruth Beatty.

 

He married on July 29, 1939, in LaPorte County, Ind., the former Alma M. Bluhm, who passed away on Feb. 3, 1999. Howard was a tool and die maker working for various shops in northern Indiana. He was also the former owner of the Lakeville Speed Queen Laundromat, and was a member of the North Liberty United Methodist Church. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Darnell J. and W. Eugene Bailey of North Liberty; three step-grandchildren, Steven E. Bailey and Leslie J. (Jeffery) Petersen, both of Mishawaka, Ind., and Doreen A. (Mark) Wachenschwanz of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a granddaughter-in-law, Gloria Corellano of Washington, D.C.; four great-grandchildren, Joseph P. Bailey and Samantha A. Petersen, both of Mishawaka, Lauren A. Bailey of Washington, D.C., and Brandon N. Wachenschwanz of Fort Wayne; a brother, Elmer D. Beatty, Jr., of Rolling Prairie, Ind.; a half sister, Isabel Albertsen of Walkerton, Ind.; and by two sisters-in- law, Marie Hazel (Floyd) Landes of Rolling Prairie and Billie Glasshagel of Valparaiso, Ind.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, at the North Liberty United Methodist Church. Rev. Fred Stayton, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial and graveside services will follow in Porter Rae Cemetery in Potato Creek State Park, North Liberty. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 5, at the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan Street, Lakeville, Ind., and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Contributions in memory of Howard S. Beatty may be made to the North Liberty United Methodist Church, P.O.
