Susan A. Beamer

Mrs. Susan A. Beamer, 61, of Timberland Drive in Clay Township, Ind., died in her home on Monday, April 6th, after a courageous struggle with cancer that lasted more than two years. She was born to Donald and Helen Forrest on June 27, 1936, in Hudson, Ind., but grew up in South Bend, Ind. She attended South Bend Central High School where she was a cheer leader for the area's first state basketball championship team in 1953, and graduated in 1954. She worked at the Oliver Hotel and Pacer Oil Company until her marriage to George N. Beamer on Feb. 4, 1956, then moved to Bloomington Ind., where she was a student at Indiana University. She worked for the I.U. Alumni office and News Bureau, thus earning her PHT degree (Putting Hubby Through) from the School of Law in 1960. She was also president of the Law Wive's organization. Returning to South Bend, Sue worked in the County Clerk's office and for the Portage Township Assessor. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Davis of South Bend; and her son, Stephen Beamer of Beverly Shores, Ind.; three sisters, Dee Romano of Deland, Fla., Betty Gillespie of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Sally Harvey of South Bend. She is also survived by the four grandchildren who were the light of her life, Kerri Powell, Dakoda Davis, Amber Beamer and Hannah Beamer. Sue was a member of the Sigma Alpha Sorority and was a volunteer for the American Heart Association, the Special Olympics and other charities. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister and grandmother, who had a keen sense of humor which she maintained until the end of her life.

 

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, at the intersection of Cleveland and Hickory Roads. Private funeral services will be held.
