MISHAWAKA - Avery, Richard C. 93 , of Mishawaka, passed away Friday, June 4, 2010, at Linden House of Mishawaka. He was born May 23, 1917, in South Bend, IN, the son of Ross Bernard and Ruth Marie (Hickey) Avery. Richard was a draftsman at Bendix for 29 years and also worked at Clark Equipment. He was a lifelong resident of the local area, predominantly Mishawaka, and spent 14 years in Florida. On August 31, 1940, Richard married the former Mildred S. Wolf, who preceded him in death on July 8, 1994. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, D.J. Maxwell; three brothers, James, Wilfred and Francis Avery; and three sisters, Sarah Avery, Marie DeJack and Jean Ann Books. Richard is survived by two daughters, Sharon Marie Maxwell of Blackville, SC, and Sandra Kay (Chris) Weiss of Woodstock, GA; one son, David Owen (Deborah) of Mishawaka; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Avery of Ft. Wayne, IN; and two brothers, John and Joe Avery, both of Mishawaka. Funeral services for Richard will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2010, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy on behalf of Mr. Avery may be made for library books to Ringling College of Art and Design, Attn.: Office of Development, 2700 N.
