Sylvia Jane Arndt, 63, of 715 West 3rd Street, Mishawaka, Ind., died on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 18, after a courageous fight with cancer. She was born to Samuel and Pearl Rybicki on the west side of South Bend, Ind., on Oct. 14, 1934. She graduated from St. Adalbert's Grade School and Washington High School (1953). She was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Mishawaka and a member of the church's Rosary Society. Mrs. Arndt worked several jobs throughout her life, but was most accomplished as a homemaker and mother.
She is survived by Lawrence J. Arndt. They were married on June 4, 1960. She is also survived by her six children, Kevin J. (Leann) Arndt of Mishawaka, George L. (Rene) Arndt of Zionsville, Ind., Christine M. (Todd) Garringer of Mechanicsburg, Ind., Patricia A. (William) Niedbalski of South Bend, Barbara J. (and her fiance, Jose Soria) Arndt of Stamford, Conn., and Nicholas A. Arndt of Mishawaka; five grandchildren, Devin, Edward, Patrick, Chloe and Anna Arndt; a sister, Mary Ann Utt, and by a brother, Donald R. Rybicki, both of South Bend.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Mishawaka, with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
