OSCEOLA - Orville D. Anderson, 59, died Friday, February 29, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Born April 19, 1948, in Mishawaka, he graduated from Mishawaka High School, was a U.S. Army veteran, and was employed at NIPSCO as a maintenance manager. Mr. Anderson was the former police chief in Osceola and former fire chief at Penn North. He was the treasurer of the American Legion Post #308 and the treasurer of the POW-MIA Remembrance Riders, was a member of the Gold Wing Riders Association, Chapter N, served as ride coordinator, and was a member of the Blue Knights and the Patriot Guard. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by two sons, Jeff and Byron Anderson. Survivors include his wife, Debra L. Anderson of Osceola; his mother, Ruth (Earl Baker) Anderson of Osceola; a companion, Diana Barrier of South Bend; a son, Robert (Shelley) Anderson of Elkhart; a daughter, Lisa M. (Michael) Gerndt of Granger; a brother, Ora R. (Rita) Anderson of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Brett Bingaman of Elkhart, Holly (Ben Musick) Whiteford of South Bend, Cody Anderson of South Bend, Jeromy Gerndt of Granger, RyLee Anderson of Elkhart, Jared Gerndt of Granger, Jacob Gerndt of Granger and Renee Fuller of South Bend; and his great-granddaughter, Lily Musick of South Bend. Funeral services at 2:00 PM Friday in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., with calling one hour prior to services. Calling will also be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM in the funeral home. Burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family's preferred memorials are to the American Diabetes Association, to the American Cancer Society or to the donor's choice.
