Sister Mary Ancilla C.S.C.

Sister Mary Rose Blaire (Sister Mary Ancilla) C.S.C., 85, was born in Lancaster, Ohio, Aug. 15, 1916, to the late Edward G. Blair and Mary Catherine Thimmes Blair.

 

Sister is survived by her brothers, Bishop Stephen Blaire of Stockton, Calif., and Robert, Frank, Jerome, Ned and Lee Blaire, and by a niece, Mary Kay Elia, all of California.

 

Sister spent nearly 50 years as an elementary teacher, and most of those years were in the West, Utah, California, Idaho and Nevada. She taught at Saint Mary's Campus School for 10 years and then returned to California. Sister's last teaching assignment was at St. Barnabas School, Long Beach, Calif., where she was tutor, CCD teacher and librarian.

 

Sister Mary Rose retired to Saint Catherine's, Ventura, Calif., in 1989, where she spent time in community service.

 

In 1999 she came to Saint Mary's and was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor F und, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556.

 

Visitation will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in the Church of Loretto, where a wake service will be at 7 p.m. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame.

 

The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
