The Martin Kujawski Family
Martin Kujawski came to South Bend in 1885 from Prussian Poland where he was born in the village of Czechy, August 28,1864. He worked at the Oliver plow factory and at Studebakers until his retirement in 1930. His wife Antoinette Laskowski was the daughter of one of the earliest Polish families in our city. She was married first to Adalbert Tajkowski in the first wooden Polish Church on West Monroe street in 1877 which was blown down by a tornado. She married Martin after Adalbert's death in 1887 bringing four children to the union. Seven additional children would be born to the marriage of Martin and Antoinette. Antoinette will pass in 1946 and Martin will follow in 1953. They rest at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, Ind.
