The Lawrence & Stella (Jozwiak) Stajkowski Family
Lawrence was born to Johann & Antonia Stajkowski July 15, 1869 in the village of Gambin, also known by its Polish name of Glebiny, in Pomerania, a province of Prussian Poland. The family came to this country about 1890 originally settling near Everson, Pa in Scottdale borough of Westmoreland County, PA. They were farmers in Poland and presumably followed that trade in Pennsylvania. On September 7, 1897 Lawrence will marry the former Stanislawa "Stella" Jozwiak the daughter of Martin and Michalina (Ogorkiewicz) Jozwiak in Everson, PA. Thirthteen children will be born to this union, Stanislaus (1898), Helen (1900), Anna (1901), Felix (1902), Frank (1904), Bert (1906), Louis (1908), Walter (1910), Sophie (1912), Frances (1914), Joseph (1916), Irene (1918) and Evelyn (1924). All of the children survived to adulthood. The family lived at 1534 W. Dunham and were parishioners of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church. Lawrence was a day laborer in the local South Bend factories. Lawrence will pass of an extended illness March 09, 1945 and Stella will follow January 03, 1950. They rest together at St. Joseph's Cemetery, South Bend, Indiana.
