Floyd, Clark, and Harrison Counties (Indiana) First Families Program

A Project of the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society

Purpose
The purpose of this program sponsored by Southern Indiana Genealogical Society is

to honor the memory of the pioneers/first families who came and lived in the counties of Floyd, Clark, or Harrison Indiana before December 31, 1840.
Anyone who can prove descent from at least one of those pioneers is eligible for recognition.

Application forms
Application forms may be requested from Southern Indiana Genealogical Society, and are also available in the New Albany Public Library Indiana Room.
To download forms, see links at bottom of page.

Documenting the application
Pedigree charts and family group sheets are not enough documentation. Proof of lineage (birth, death, marriage, and the connection between the generations)
must be submitted with the application. Enclose readable photocopies of proof for review, approval and acceptance. Do not send original documents. If the
evidence is from a book or manuscript, send one copy of the title page and all relevant pages of text. If a proof page refers to more than one generation, one
copy is sufficient for all generations involved. If the evidence is from a public or private document (will, deed, probate record, family Bible, etc.), send
photocopy, including type of book and title, page numbers, etc. If from a census record, send photocopy including the census year, state, county, township
and family. Do not write over or alter a poor photocopy, but if hard to read include a transcription. If copy of original is not accessible, send statement of
where proof is found.

Submit the application
Submitted applications and documentation will become the property of the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society files and will not be returned.
The applications and documents will be checked, and additional proofs will be requested if needed.

Certificates
Certificates will be issued for approved First Family & Descendants, and awarded during October of each calendar year. If you would prefer to have your
certificate mailed, please note that on your application. In order to receive your certificate at the October presentation of the present calendar year, the applications must be received no later that Sept. 1st of that year.
