using a hoist

using a hoist

 The use of a hoist is one of the most valuable tools in resetting large obelisks or granite tombstone. This is one that was home-made from the Gordon Hooker/s plans Gordon made these for several folks out of the kindness of his heart.

Using a portable hoist is a great way to save the cemetery grounds and our backs too. Using heavy equipment can break more stones or crush the unknown items under the surface.   There are usually always more buried stones.

   Take a look at the different parts of the hoist. Thanks to Kim Hancock for donating her photos.

From Kim; "I got the Hoist from Harbor Freight for $50 and they also had 6 foot straps there, a friend of mine bout me some 8 foot
and then I just found   some 3 in thick for the obelisk, they work better, no slipping, you just kinda have to shop around, took me
6 months  to build up my different size strap  collection, but Harbor Fright had the cheapest hoist that I found".
Her straps were purchased at Harbor Fright.
