TITLE: The "Benjamin F. Fairless", One of the Largest Ore Freighters,
Docking at the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation Plant, Gary, Indiana.
Among the largest ore freighters plying the Great Lakes is the Benjamin F.
Fairless, named for the president of United States Steel Corporation and
operated by the subsidiary, Pittsburgh Steamship Company. This freighter has
a capacity of about 17,500 tons and is past of a fleet which yearly moves
ore from the Minnesota iron range to lake ports of U. S. Steel's plants.
