BACKGROUND -
PERSONAL SURETY
Surety Bonds are often required by private industry, municipalities, states and
the federal government to ensure a principal abides by the governing rules and
regulations. Each has their own specific surety bond form. The principal is
required to provide the surety bond form.
A surety bond is a three party agreement and they are underwritten similar to a
loan.
Obilgee: The entity that requires the Surety Bond (in this case the Lake County Auditor)
Principal: The entity or person applying for the Surety Bond (in this case the Township Trustees)
Surety Company: The entity that issues the Surety Bonds.
