REEVES, James Robinson. - Desire parents of James R. Reeves.  James was born 27 Sep 1858 in Madison Co., IN, Fortville area.  Died 09 Oct 1927 in Anderson, Madison Co., buried in West Maplewood.  Married Martha Janes Collier on 5 Jun 1880 in Madison Co., near Middletown.  James R. Reeves was delivered by Dr. Kennedy in Fortville and raised by another family in Madison County.  He had 2 sisters, Della (?Reeves) Miller and married a Gilman.  Della was the mother of Mark Henry Miller; Bob Miller; and Ruth Miller who married Duane Adams of the Fortville Lumber Family.  His other sister was Effie (?Reeves) who had no children and it is unknown if she ever married, but believed to have lived in Fortville.  Mable Collier Reeves, d/o Jim and Martha Reeves remembers "the Cicero Reeves family home and calling them 'cousins'.  Cicero was a son of Benjamin Reeves who lived in Hancock county, IN.  Cicero and Benjamin were well known in both Hancock and Madison Counties."  It has been said the Reeves originally came from NC or VA; perhaps there are clues in Dr. Kennedy's records; there may be a connection to Benjamin Reeves.  There may be some reason that Jim Reeves never talked about his boyhood other than that he swam with James Whitcomb Riley in the 'ole swimmng hole' in Greenfield when he was a boy."  Any clues will be appreciated.  Submitted 4 Aug 2001 by Micki Fackenthal, [email protected]
