Vance, Betty E. (Johnston) 80, of LaGrange died Tuesday October 11, 2005 at Life Care Center of LaGrange.  Mrs. Vance was born on January 18, 1925 in Fort Wayne, IN to Charles and Susie (Grissinger) Johnston.   On November 8, 1947 she married Warren W. Vance in Fort Wayne, IN, he died on March 26, 2000. They moved from the Ft. Wayne area to Fish Lake in 1974. She was retired from the LaGrange Hospital and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in LaGrange. She was an avid reader and a reknowned bridge player whose passion for the game endeared her to her fellow players.  Mrs. Vance is survived by a daughter Susan A. England of San Francisco, CA, two sons Lester A. and Marcia Vance and Craig R. and Gale Vance both of Ft. Wayne, IN, a brother John Johnston of Ft. Wayne, IN, a grandchild and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.  Services will be held on Saturday October 15, 2005 at 3:00 pm at the Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm (Noon) until service time at 3:00 pm. Father Mark Weaver will be officiating over the service. Vanderhyde, Robert E.  -  68, of LaGrange died Wednesday July 26, 2006 in Sullivan, MO.  Mr. Vanderhyde was born on October 25, 1937 in Grand Rapids, MI to Frank and Frances (Bricker) Vanderhyde. They both precede him in death.  Moving to LaGrange 36 years ago from Kent City, MI he delivered 5th wheel travel trailers.  On September 4, 1970 he married Arlene Hoekwater in Grand Rapids, MI.  Surviving are his wife Arlene Vanderhyde, three daughters Cindy, Jean Marie, Deb, two sons Frank Vanderdhyde of Rockford, MI and Robby Vanderhyde of Las Vegas, NV, a step-daughter Mrs. Dennis (Cindy) Sherck of LaGrange, IN, a step-son Russ and Deb Miltibarger of Holland, MI, 5 step-grandchildren, four brothers Frank Vanderhyde of Sparta, MI, Tom Vanderhyde to Rockford, MI, Dave Vanderhyde of Cedar Springs, MI, and Dick Vanderhyde of Sparta, MI, and a sister Mary Anderson of White Cloud, MI.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 5, 2006 at 2:00 pm at LaGrange First Church of God with Rev. Mark Denney officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until service time at the church. Vanlandingham, Curtis "Bill"   -  88, of Ottawa, Ohio and formerly of LaGrange, died July 19, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. at Autumn Court in Ottawa, OH.  He was born on December 25, 1919 in Terre Haute, Indiana.  He served in the Marine Corp and was a veteran of World War II.  He formerly worked as a machine operator at Newman's Foundry in Kendallville, IN before retiring to LaGrange, then to Ottawa.  Surviving is a son; William Vanlandingham of Michigan.  Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m., Wednesday July 23, 2008 at Carney-Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange, IN.  A graveside service with Military rites by the American Legion Post #215 will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange. – LaGrange Co., Indiana Obituary "LaGrange News," from July 25, 2008

VanWinkle, Bob M.  -  age 65, of Howe, IN died Wednesday July 24, 2013 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, IN.  He was born on February 8, 1948 in Pocahontas, AR to Clay & Mary (Eby) VanWinkle.  He married Sandra L, Podemski. On June 18, 1966 at the Osceola Mennonite Church.  She survives in Howe.  Bob had worked Skyline in Howe, IN.  He is survived by his wife, mother, 2 sons – Brett VanWinkle of Terre Haute, IN and Brian VanWinkle of LaGrange, IN.  1 brother – Daniel VanWinkle of Arkansas,  1 sister – Diane (David) Smith of Arkansas.  2 Grand Godchildren – Ethan A. Day and Kaylee A. Caudill both of LaGrange, IN.  Several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father and 1 brother – Grover (Buzz) VanWinkle.  Visitation will be held on Saturday August 10, 2013 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Carney-Frost Funeral Home, LaGrange, IN.  A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Weaver officiating during visitation.



 VanWinkle, Dorothy V. (Leslie) 87, of Kendallville died Sunday July 2, 2006 at Shepherd of the Hill in Kendallville, IN.  Mrs. Van Winkle was born on December 3, 1918 in Indianapolis, IN to Ver and Nora (Crouch) Leslie; they both precede her in death.  She moved to Rome City in 1986 from Indianapolis where she had worked as a laborer in the warehouse for William H. Block Company. She was a member of the Rome City United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women’s Association, Choir Member, and Sylvan Chapter #251 OES.  She was married on June 5, 1943 in Indianapolis, IN to Henry Young; he died in 1961. She then married Meredith VanWinkle on April 23, 1977 in Veedersburg, IN; he died on December 19, 1999.  She is survived by a step-daughter Mrs. David (Sondra) Harvey of Rome City, IN, a step-son H.E. “Rip” VanWinkle of Indianapolis, IN, 3 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her son Donald Young in 1959 and a brother Robert Leslie in 1944.  Graveside services will be held on Thursday July 6, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN with Rev. Michael McKinney officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 5, 2006 at the Rome City United Methodist Church in Rome City from 4-8 pm with an OES Service beginning at 7:30 pm.   Memorials may be made to the Rome City United Methodist Church.

Vaughn, Dorothy L.  -  age 74, of Howe, IN, died Monday, September 9, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on May 23, 1939, in Pottstown, PA, a daughter of Louis J. and Martha H. (Hoover) Cimino. On April 1, 1967, she married Charles J. Vaughn in Pottstown, PA, and together they set off on their 46-year honeymoon. He survives. Dorothy moved from Pottstown to LaGrange County, IN, in 1967. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was Secretary/Treasurer of Shipshewana Homes in Shipshewana, IN. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in LaGrange, IN, and Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis, MI. Surviving are one daughter, Christine M. Vaughn of Fort Wayne, IN; one son, James C. Vaughn V of Howe, IN; three grandchildren; two sisters, Joan A. (Richard) Wagner of Bethlehem, PA, and Donna M. (Dennis) Smith of Boyertown, PA; two brothers, Louis J. (Alice) Cimino of Gilbertsville, PA, and Nicholas P. (Lott) Cimino of Pottstown, PA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in LaGrange. Father John Steele will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange. Visitation will be on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Vaughn, Rex A.  -  65, of 2810 North 675 West Shipshewana, IN. died at 8:50  AM on Monday, September 8, 2008 at Goshen General Hospital Goshen, IN., after a 4 year battle with cancer. He was born October 3, 1942 in Allen County, IN., to Rodney and Rosalie (Carlson) Vaughn. He moved to this area in 1965 coming from Noble County. On August 11, 1961 in Noble County, IN. he married Sherrill A. (Smith) Vaughn. He had worked at J.O. Mory, Golden Auto Parts, LaGrange, Gerring Industries and was the owner and operator of Midwest Salvage & Shipshewana Antique Reproduction and he worked as a purchasing agent for Holly Park, Shipshewana for the past 8 years. He was a former member of the Shipshewana Lions Club, the Masons, Shipshewana Business Association, a merit board member of the LaGrange Sheriffs Association, former Captain of the Shipshewana Police Department from 1989 - 1995, a department he was instrumental in starting and served as a special deputy for the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department. Survivors include  his wife, Sherry Vaughn; and  2 Daughters, Jennifer & Dave Burroughs of Shipshewana, IN. and Stephanie & Daron Yoder of Howe, Ind.; a son, Brian & Georgeanne Vaughn of Howe, IN; 7 Grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel, Kevin, Drake, Jaci, Zak and Danika; 3 Brothers, Robert & June Vaughn of Shipshewana, IN., Ronald & Pat Vaughn of Wolcottville, IN, Randy & Linda Vaughn of Avilla, IN. He was preceded in death by both parents, and 2 brothers: Rodney & Richard Vaughn. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Shipshewana United Methodist Church, Shipshewana. Services will be conducted by Rev. Charles McPeek and Rev. Andy Dayton. Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana, IN. VonOlnhausen, Trella M.  -  90, of Howe, IN died Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Miller's Merry Manor. Living her lifetime in LaGrange County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. VonOlnhausen was a member of Calvary Chapel Fellowship in Stroh, IN. Mrs. VonOlnhausen was born on July 4, 1923 in LaGrange County to Emanuel and Emma (Weirich) Howard. On September 12, 1948 in Shipshewana, IN. she married William E. VonOlnhausen. Mr. VonOlnhausen preceded her in death on September 23, 1998. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and David Guldin of Adrian, MI; a daughter-in-law, Debra VonOlnhausen of Batavia, IL; and a brother and sister-in-law, Lester K. and Bonnie Howard of Laurinburg, NC; three nieces, Marietta (Ralph) Abston, Martha Jane (Gary) Rausch and Lisa (Carey) Ready and a nephew, Martin (Barb) Burgi. Preceding Trella in death were her parents, her husband, a son, James E. VonOlnhausen, who died on February 2, 2011, a sister Florence Burgi-Shigley and a niece, Debra Teague. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, August 28th at the Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 West Michigan St, LaGrange. The Rev. Gary Rifenburg will officiate. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Howe, IN. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 27th from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Memorials may be directed to the Calvary Chapel Fellowship or a charity of the donor's choice.
