AMMON, GEORGE W.
An old resident dies. End comes to G. W. Ammon on Thursday night. He was a pioneer 
of Howard county — the widow and four children survive. When death took it's toll 
of George W. Ammon at 10:30 o’clock Thursday night, another of Howard county’s 
residents was placed upon the growing scroll of those who have gone before. Although 
a native of Virginia, Mr. Ammon was so long a resident of this county, first upon his 
farm near Russiaville and later in the city, that he grew to be part of the county and 
it's history. He was 74 years old. Death came after a long illness of hardening of the 
arteries. A widow, Mrs. Sophie E. Ammon, two sons, Otto and Arthur of Minneola, Kansas, 
and two daughters, Mrs. O. A. Hart and Mrs. O. M. Kingery, residing south of Greentown, 
survive. Otto Ammon was at one time recorder of Howard county. Mr. Ammon was a member 
of the T. J. Harrison post, G. A. R., and of the Greentown Redman’s lodge. The funeral 
will be conducted from the late residence, where the death occurred, at 433 South 
Armstrong street, Monday morning at 10 o’clock. Rev. Ward Havens and Rev. D. H. Shields 
will officiate. There will be pall bearers from both the local G. A. R. and the Greentown 
Redmen. Burial will be held at Crown Point cemetery.
