Betty J. Babcock, 59, of 23042 Greenleaf Blvd., died at 4:19 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 18, 1986) in the emergency room at Goshen General Hospital, where she was taken with injuries suffered in a traffic accident on U.S. 20, just east of C.R. 117.
She was born March 7, 1927, in LaGrange. As Betty J. Troyer, she married Charles A. Babcock on April 10, 1949, in Elkhart. He died Aug. 18, 1978, in Elkhart. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. David (Elizabeth) Atkinson, Pembroke Pines, Fla.; three sons, George E., Fairmount, John W., Elkhart, and Charles R., South Bend; seven grand-children; her mother, Mary Troyer; and one sister, Mrs. Robert (Beverly) Wise, both of Elkhart; and four brothers, Robert Troyer of Lake Bluff, Ill., Stanley Troyer of Springfield, Ill., Donald Troyer of Macomb, Ill., and Dr. Richard Troyer, Nampa, Idaho.

Charles O. Babcock, 57, died unexpectedly at 9 o'clock this morning at his home, 170 St. Clair. He had worked as a polisher for the Buescher Band Instrument Co. for 37 years.
He was born on Dec. 4, 1902, in Pierrrceton, Ind., and married Elizabeth Roth on April 17, 1926, in Elkhart.
Mrs. Babcock survives, with two sons, Charles and Roger, and two daughters, Mary and Barbara, all of Elkhart; six grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Woodkey of Elkhart and Mrs. Vera Kelley of Warsaw.

Mr. Babcock was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Elkhart. On April 10, 1949, he married Betty J. Troyer in Elkhart.
Surviving with her are three sons, George E., of Fairmount, Ind., and John W. and Charles R., both of Elkhart; one daughter Elizabeth A. of Elkhart; one brother, Roger Babcock of Elkhart; two sisters, Mary Babcock and Mrs. Ron (Barbara) High, both of Elkhart; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Babcock of Elkhart, and one grandchild.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War I, and he was office manager of Bill's Lumber Co. for 10 years.

ELKHART - Elizabeth L. Babcock, 91, of 801 Windsor Circle, died at 7:40 a.m. Sunday (July 23,2000) at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 3, 1908, in Elkhart to William H. and Catherine (Frey) Roth. She married Charles O. Babcock April 17, 1926, in Elkhart. He died June 13, 1960.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ronald L. (Barbara) High and Mary Elizabeth Babcock, both of Elkhart; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call one hour proir to the service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery.
Mrs. Babcock worked in the cafeteria at Elkhart High School from 1959 to 1971.

Roger A. Babcock, 55, of 1534 Cone St., died at 7:56 a.m. Sunday in the emergency room at Elkhart General Hospital. His death followed an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Elkhart, and married LaVerne V. "Vicki" Johnson on Jan. 13, 1968, in Elkhart.
She survives with three daughters, Deborah, Elkhart, Mrs. Mark (Catherine) Wyatt, Bristol, and Mrs. Stephen (Cynthia) Sachs, Arlington, Texas; two sons, Craig A. and Roger "Scotty", both at home; two grandchildren; his mother, Elizabeth Babcock; and two sisters, Mary and Mrs. Ronald (Barbara) High, all of Elkhart. One brother, Charles, died in 1978.

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - Bennie L. Balyeat, 73, of Mission Viejo, formerly of Elkhart, died in his home on Thursday (April 20, 2000).
Mr. Balyeat, the son of Chester and Marjorie (Roth) Balyeat, wa born in Elkhart on Jan. 27, 1927, and married Mary Checkley on July 5, 1947. They moved to California in 1972.
His wife survives with two daughters, Kathy Nielsen of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., and Linda Garcia of Orange, Calif.; four grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Lambdin of Spring Hill, Fla., and Joyce Drysdale of Warner Robbins, Ga.; and two brothers, Elmer of Sun City, Calif., and Karl of Bristol.
Mr. Balyeat, a U.S. Army veteran, worked for 19 years in the building maintenance department at the University of California in Irvine.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at O'Connor Laguna Hills Mortuary. The funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Kilian Church in Mission Viejo, followed by burial at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange.

Mr. Balyeat had worked at C.G. Conn for 25 years and at Vincent Bach division of Selmer for 15 years, where he was in management for the past five years. He was a member and former deacon of the Beulah Missionary Church. Mr. Balyeat was active in Boy Scouts and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, serving in World War II.

NATHAN BATES Another Old Settler Gone - On last Saturday morning, January 24, 1885, Nathan Bates departed this life at his home in Jackson township, Elkhart County, In., at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 14 days. His companion still survives him, though in very feeble health. 55 years they journeyed together down the stream of time, until at last he reached the great ocean of Eternity. 41 years a resident of Elkhart County. He was consigned to the grave in the Rodabaugh cemetery, near Union Mills, on Jan. 26, 1885. Funeral discourse by Rev. JH Warstler, of the German Baptist Church. Besides his companion, he leaves on son, four daughters, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren to mourn their loss. Ephraim Bates, the father of the deceased, was a soldier in the Revolutionary war, having then a wife and 5 small children. During the progress of the war, he was taken a prisoner and placed on a British Man of War, where he was detained a prisoner for several years, when the ship on which he was came in battle with an American vessel of war and was captured by the Americans, through which means he was restored to his own country again. He then sought for his wife and children, but they could not be found; he searched the country over, but could hear nothing of them. He even went among the graves in the cemeteries and grave yards and continued his searches there, and at last he found a stone at the head of a grave upon which was the name of his wife, and by the side of that grave another small one, of on of the children. Of the other 4 children he was never able to learn anything, he could never find any trace of them. He supposed they were murdered by the Indians. After a time he married again, and by his second wife had 11 children, the subject of this sketch, Nathan Bates being one, and so far as it is known, the last one to bid adieu to earth. Ralph E. Bates, 89, 1225 Greencroft Drive, Goshen, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Greencroft Nursing Center where he was admitted in August 1986.
A native of Elkhart County, he was born Sept. 25, 1900, and lived most of his lifetime in the area. On Oct. 4, 1919, he married B e u I a h Anglemyer. She died Jan. 6, 1980. Survivors include three
Daughters, Virginia Miller: Goshen, Mrs. Vernon (Berdine) Frey, Elkhart, and Mrs. Oscar (Annabelle) Packer, Middlebury; three sons, Donald, Elkhart, and W. Roy and Gordon, both of Goshen; 21 grandchildren; 45 great- grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs., Andrew (Kathryn) Kellerman, Fort Wayne, Margaret Neff, Mary Sailor and Oma Rohn, all of Goshen. He was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers.
He was a retired farmer, school bus driver and was a member of the Rock Run Church of the Brethren.

FRANK W. BEANE
Frank William Beane, 76, who served as democratic national committeman from Idaho from 1892 until 1896, died at 9:30 o'clock this morning at the Goshen hospital after a long illness. Death was due to cerebal hemorrhage.
Mr. Beane suffered a broken hip in a fall in Elkhart last October, and never recovered. He was a patient at the General hospital there from the time of the accident until he was brought to the Goshen hospital December 12.
The deceased was born in Goshen, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Beane. His father was editor of the Goshen Democrat for a number of years.
Mr. Beane had reside in Goshen with his sister; Mrs. Mary L. Deahl, 312 S. Fifth street, for the past three and one half years. He came to Goshen from Salt Lake City Utah, where he located many years ago.
He left Goshen about 53 years ago going to Utah to follow his occupation as a telegraph operator. He was appointed registrar of lands by President Grover Cleveland during his first administration and then located at Blackfoot, Idaho.
Mr. Beane was one of the organizers of the democratic party in Idaho and was a member of the Idaho constitutional convention when the state was admitted to the union.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Grace B. Dale, of New York City, and two sisters, Mrs. Deahl and Mrs. Hattie A. Geddes, of Cleveland. His wife, Grace, died many years ago.
The body was removed to the Culp funeral home where it will lie in state until the hour of the funeral, which has not been determined. Burial will be made in the family lot in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Injury Sustained last Monday in fall hastens death
Was Widow of William A. Beane,
for many years Editor of the Goshen Democrat.
Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Beane, 88 years old, a pioneer resident of Elkhart county,died this morning shortly before ten o'clock at her home,410 East Purl street, as the result of complications following a fall last Monday morning in which she sustained a fracture of the left hip.
Mrs. Beane was the widow of the late William A. Beane, who died 32 years ago and who for more then 40 years was connected with the Goshen Democrat, the greater part of that time was editor and proprietor.
Mrs. Beane for 65 years had been a member of the First Baptist church of Goshen. Until her fall, she enjoyed good health most of the time and maintained a remarkable interest in public affairs.
Surviving are six children; Mattie A. Geddes, Los Anglese, Calif.; Frank W. and Charles E. Beane, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Lincoln J. Carter and Joseph A. Beane, Goshen, and Mrs. Lucy D. Bullock, Jacksonville Fla.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral servies will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the home, the Rev. LeRoy H. Ellis of the First Baptist church officating. Burial in Oak Ridge cemetery.

JACOB WILLIAM BECKNER
Jacob Beckner, 85, died at the Goshen hospital Saturday morning where he had
been a patient for two weeks suffering from a broken hip. Death was due to
pneumonia.
The son of Elia and Eliza Beckner, he was born in Clinton township. At the
age of eight his parents moved to Noble county where he lived until the time
of his death. He was married to Margaret Hough, November 11, 1886, who
preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son Eli, who lives on the homeplace, Three grandchildren,
Arnold and Adrian Beckner, of Pheonix, Ariz., and Mrs. D. Stoner, of
Millersburg, and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the United Brethren Church
in Ligonier with Rev. Rollins officiating. Burial in Oak Park cemetery.

GLENN L. BELL Glenn L. Bell, 64 , 3l8 Chicago Avenue, died at 3:45 a.m. today at Long Lake, near Burr Oak, Mich., where he was vacationing with his family. Death was unexpected because Mr. Bell had not been ill and had been fishing yesterday.
Mr. Bell, who would have returned to work Monday at the Bendix plant in South Bend, became ill suddenly and was dead before a Colon, Mich., physician and rescue squad could reach the summer cottage at the Steinke Resort on Long Lake.
A native of Fort Scott, Kansas, Mr. Bell was born Sept. 24, l896, and married Estella Pepper April l7, l9l7. They moved from Elkhart to Goshen 40 years ago.

MRS. GLEN L. BELL Mrs. Estella M. Bell, 78, 318 Chicago Avenue, died at
11:15 a.m. Wednesday at Goshen General Hospital where she was a patient since
March 7. Mrs. Bell had been in ill health since last
November.
Born in Payne, Ohio, April 4, 1896, a daughter of
William and Mary ( Burke ) Pepper, Mrs. Bell has lived in the Goshen area most
of her life. She was married to Glenn L. Bell who died July 14,
1961.

Boy Is Killed By Shotgun On Hunting Trip Robert Bell, thirteen years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Bell, of 2l9 Olive street, was instantly killed in a hunting accident Monday afternoon at about four o'clock. The accident occurred along the tracks of the Michigan branch of the New York Central, about four miles east of Goshen. A charge of a l2 gauge shotgun tore off the top of the boy's head, killing him instantly.
While no actually witnessed the accident, it is believed that the gun was discharged when the boy picked it up. Coroner W.A. Stauffer, of Elkhart who conducted an inquest at the Culp Funeral Home last evening returned a verdict of accidental death.
The Bell child was one of five boys who went hunting yesterday. Several of them ,the victim of the fatal accident included, "skipped' school for the occasion. The other members of the party were Earl Albert l 7, David Pepper l 7, William Pepper 2 l , and Kenneth Cripe l 2.
The boys drove a car out the Middlebury road to the end of the brick pavement, east to the first crossroad, and then north to the railroad tracks, where they left the car and walked east along the tracks in quest of game.
At the bridge over a small creek which crossed under the tracks the Cripe boy leaned his gun against a timber of the bridge while he was getting a drink of water from the creek. It was while he was taking a drink that he heard the discharge of the gun, and looking up saw the Bell boy lying on the ground. The other boys in the party were some distance away, and also were attracted by the sound of the gun. The gun, it was said, still stood against the timber where it had been placed, and at first there seemed to be some doubt as to where the charge had come from. The gun however showed an empty shell, and it is believed that the boy tried to pick up the gun, and as he did so the hammer caught on the timber and the gun was discharged. The Cripe boy had borrowed the gun from his brother-in-law, Herbert Bowers.
Samuel Rink and another man who was cutting wood nearby were called and an ambulance was called from Goshen. Chief of Police Lake Headly also went to the scene of the accident.
Robert Bell was born in Goshen and is survived by his parents and two sisters, Dorothy and Marguerite Bell.
Funeral services will be held at the home on Olive street Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. J.P. Hawk of the First Reformed Church will officiate and burial will be made in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.

John "Jack " Bole, 58, 1001 W. Hively Ave.
, Elkhart, died at 11:42 a.m. Tuesday in Elkhart General Hospital. He had
lived at Rosewood Terrace, Elkhart, since Nov. 1.
A native of Elkhart, he was born Aug. 23, 1934, to
Albert and Ethel ( Kreider ) Bole, and was married Sept. 10, 1960, in Elkhart,
to Delores June Mock. Most of his lifetime was spent in the area. He
retired from Elkhart Rubber Works and was a member of Goshen Moose Lodge
836.
Survivors include Mrs. Bole; a daughter, Debra L.
McClane, Elkhart; two sons, George C. Sheffer, Goshen, and Jeff Bole, Elkhart;
12 grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Crowder, Osceola, and Marie Cleveland,
Union, Mich.; and a brother, Albert Jr., Elkhart. He was preceded in death
by a sister, Dolly Bole; two brothers, Edward and James; and a grandson, Michael
C. Sheffer.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at
Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where services will be at 11 a.m. Friday. The
Rev. Thomas Clark, pastor of Little Pine Church of the Brethren, will officiate
at the service.
Pallbearers for burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery will be

CARL R. BOSSE GOSHEN: Mr. and Mrs. Louis D. Bosse, of 119 Crescent street, who spent 3
days with their son, Staff Sgt. Carl R. Bosse, 22 at Long Beach, Calif.,
just 2 weeks ago, today mourned his death in the crash of a bomber which 2
other crew members near Sweetwater, Tex., about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
He is the 12th Elkhart county man to lose his life while wearing a uniform
of the United States armed forces since Dec. 7, 1941. In addition, 12
Elkhart county men are listed by the war and navy departments as missing or
probably prisoners of war.
Several relatives of Sgt. Bosse live in Elkhart.
A military board of inquiry today sought the cause of the tragedy. The
plane crashed and burned in a cotton field 10 miles north of Loraine,
according to an Associated Press dispatch.
Notified by Telegram A witness of the crash, Mrs. Arnold Haygood, said the plane burst into
flames as it struck the ground. She said pieces of the ship began falling
from it before it crashed. The tail of the craft was found about half a
mile from the main wreckage, according to a press dispatch from Loraine.
H.S. Graduate Bosse, graduate of Goshen High school in 1938, applied for enlistment in
the army air corps at South Bend July 28, 1941, reporting for enlistment at
Ft. Benajmin From Ellington field he was transferred to the replacement center at Kelly
field, Texas, and was then sent to Cuero, Tex.; where he received 10 weeks
of preliminary training. After completing his primary course Bosse took his
basic training at Brayton Flying field, Brady, Tex.
Had Dinner With Him His parents paid him a surprise visit on the occasion of his graduation.
They spent parts of three days with him and had dinner with him at the army
canteen at Long Beach on his graduation day.
Mr. and Mrs. Bosse had expected their son to accompany them home after
graduation, as he had been granted a 10-day furlough, but the furlough had
been canceled 2 days before the parents arrived.
Born in Goshen Surviving in addition to the parents are the following brothers and
sisters, George Bosse of Orville, O.; Mrs. Robert Chandler of Kalamazoo,
Mich.; Mrs. Luke Huber of Goshen; Robert and Richard Bosse, both of Goshen;
and John and Donald Bosse, both at home.
Young Bosse was a grandson of William H. Roth, 317 East Lexington avenue,
his mother having been Miss Ina Roth of Elkhart. Uncles and aunts are City
Detective William F. Roth, Mrs. Chester Balyeat of the Edwardsburg road,
Mrs. Samuel Kamp of 1518 South Main street, Mrs. Charles O. Babcock of 170
St. Clair avenue, and Daniel G. Roth of 1624 Lane street, all of Elkhart;
Floyd Roth of Bristol, Mrs. Helen Schuler of Milford and Mrs. Edna Salisbury
of Logansport.
Sgt. Bosse is the fourth Goshen man listed among Elkhart county's 12 war
dead. Preceding names on the Goshen roll of honor are George Robert
Sheffer, 27, seaman first class; James William Stoller, 25, yeoman third
class, and Richard Harold Baker, 23, seaman first class, of Goshen and
Elkhart.

LOUIS D. BOSSE GOSHEN - Funeral services were this monring at St. John's Catholic Church
for Louis D. Bosse, 95, of 1100 W. Lincoln Ave., who died at 5:10 p.m.
Friday at Greencroft Nursing Center.
Arrangements were made by the Blocker - Harris Funeral Home. Burial was
in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Goshen.
He was born Sept. 10, 1888, in Nappanee, and married Ina M. Roth June 19,
1907. She died in 1979.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Katherine Chandler, Goshen, and Mrs.
Jeanette Huber, Green Valley, Ariz.; three sons, Robert, Goshen, Richard,
Tubec, Zriz., and Donald, Fort Wayne; 15 grandchildren; 35
great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Carl (Maude) Pestow, Goshen.
Mr. Bosse formerly was employed as a cabinet maker at Goshen Sash and Door
and Caswell Ruyon. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to the Elkhart County Cancer Society.

MRS. HENRY A. BOYER
Mrs. Edna Agnes Boyer 72, lifelong resident of three miles north of
Millersburg, and wife of Henry A. Boyer, died at 12:50 Friday at a Goshen
convalescent home, where she was taken three weeks ago from a sanitarium
near Lafayette, Ind. She was taken to Lafayette several months ago. Death
was caused by a complication of illnesses.
Born in Middlebury township May 27, 1874, Mrs. Boyer was a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Henry W. Haines. She married Mr. Boyer in 1907 and he survives.
Mrs. Boyer was a member of the First Brethren church.
In addition to Mr. Boyer, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Amanda
Haynes, of Goshen and Mrs. Levi Kalb of Millersburg.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:00pm at the First Brethren church,
Goshen with the Rev. H. H. Rowsey officiating. Burial was in Forest Grove
cemetery.

MRS. CLYDE BRENNEMAN
Mrs. Ruby Brenneman 55, of 153 Middlebury St., wife of Clyde Brenneman, died at
3:30 a.m. today, July 29,1949, in General Hospital following an operation
performed several days ago.
She was born in St. Joseph County March 20,1894, a daughter of Mr. And Mrs
Frederick Heldeman, and married Mr. Brenneman on March 12,1912. She was a member
of the First Christian Church of Wakarusa, and served for many years as
superintendent of the cradle roll department of its Sunday school.
Surviving besides the husband are two sons, Theron, and Clifford, borth of
Elkhart, ;her stepmother,Mrs. Eliza Sarber of Plymouth;five brothers, Harry
Holdeman of Wakarusa, Edwin Holdeman of Mishawake, Cecil of the Navy, and Melvin
and Charles Holdeman, both of Bremen; three sisters, Mrs. Rhoda Wise, Mrs. Flossie
Werner, and Mrs. Lulcy Brezger all of Elkhart, and five grandchildren.
The body, now at Lienhart Funeral Home, will be returned to the family home at 7
p.m. Saturday, where friends may call. Services will be held at the Girst
Christian church in Wakarusa at 2:30 p.m.Monday.

Alvin Burk, 62, of 7l4 East Lincoln avenue, died at 3 ll o'clock Monday at the Culp funeral home. The Rev. T.E. George will officiate. Burial will be made in the Oak Ridge cemetery. The body will lie in state at the home until Monday morning.
Mr. Burk was born in Payne,Ohio, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Burk. He came to Goshen about l5 years ago from Millersburg. His wife, Cleo Musselman Burk, died about l5 years ago.
Surviving are three children, Mrs. Raymond Shaffer, Goshen, John of Payne, and Webster of Butler, Ind. and three sisters, Mrs. Boston Rice of Attica, Ind., Mrs. John Fravey of Goshen, and Mrs. Edward Kurtz of Middlebury.

ANTON M. K. BURK Anton M.K. Burk Sr., 56 , 3l0 East Clinton Street, died at l0 p.m. Thursday at Elkhart General Hospital, to which he was admitted Wednesday. He had been ill since April and death was caused by cancer.
Mr. Burk was born Sept. l , l908, at Millersburg and he married Thelma Curtis Dec. 9, l96l.
Mr. Burk was a press operator at the Excel Rubber Company here for l 2 years and previously worked for the New York Central Railroad for l8 years.
Surviving are the widow; one son, O. Morris Kirby Burk, Goshen; two daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Maureen ) Michael, Goshen, and Miss Marlene Kathy Burk, Tacoma, Wash.; the following step-children: Richard L. WEBSTER BURK
Webster (Fuzzy ) Burk , 89 , former Goshen resident who has been making his home with a niece, Mrs. Sabrina Burk, 8l4 East Jackson Street, Elkhart, died at ll a.m. Tuesday at Elkhart General Hospital, where he had been a patient since Dec. l3. Death was caused by complications.
A native of Payne, Ohio, Mr. Burk was born Jan. 20, l878, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Burk. He never married.
Mr. Burk retied in l960 from the New york Central Railroad System.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Alma Kurtz of Goshen and Mrs. Emma Rice, Attica, and a number of Nieces and Nephews.
Friends are being received at the Rieth- Rohrer- Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen, where services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Irvin Kanode will officiate and burial will be in Brown cemetery, Millersburg.

Jones-Mrs. Violet M.Burkey, 57 of Rt.1 died this morning at her home after an
illness of several years.
She was born Feb.4,1912 in Locke,Elkhart Co.and has lived in the Jones area most
of her life.
She was married Oct.26,1929,in Angola,to Melvin Burkey.
Surviving with her husband are three daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Hapner,
Elkhart, Mrs. Edna Sentenry, Indianapolis, and Mrs. JoyAnn Miller, Goshen;
six sons, Max, Bristol, Lauren, Edwardsburg, Kenneth, Elkhart, Richard,
Glen and Arthur all of Jones, and 18 grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Paul E. Maynew (?) Funeral
Home in Edwardsburg.

Burland, aged 64 years, at her home, 4947 Prairie Ave. The deceased was a sister of Mrs. George W. Rule of 711 South Main St. and also a sister of the late John D.

MRS. CLARA A. BUSSARD

Funeral services were conducted Monday in Evangelical Lutheran Church of
the Good Shepherd, Elkhart, Indiana, for Mrs. Clara A. Bussard, 77, who
for the past 11 years had lived with a son, Stanley A. Bussard, of 3033
Alper, Lincoln Park , a Lincoln Park High School teacher. Burial was in
Rice Cemetery, also in Elkhart.
Born April 21, 1883, in Allegan County, Mrs. Bussard was a graduate of
Allegan High school and Kalamazoo Normal College, and taught schoool
before her marriage in 1906 to the late Charles Franklin Bussard. She was
active in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, and was
the first woman on the churche's board of directors. IN Lincoln Park, she
atted the First Methodist Church.
Mrs. Bussard suffered a stroke September 12 and died Friday in Zieger
Osteopathic Hospital without gaining consciousness.
Surviving her, besides Stanley, are three sons, Maurice D, of North Miami
Beach, Florida; James W., prosecuting attorney for Ottawa County, in Grand
Haven, and Floyd P., of Jones Michigan; a duaghter, Mrs. Bessie L.
Nicholas, of Portsmouth, Iowa; 33 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving her are a sister, Vionia Bradie, of Urbana, Illinois; a
brother, Richard Smith, of Allegan, and more than 100 nieces and nephews.

REV. WILLIAM BUSSARD (1933) Rev. William Bussard, 84, a lifelong resident of Jackson township, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harvey Hamilton, 6 miles north of Goshen at 8:00 this morning. He had been taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton last Thursday afternoon. The Rev. Mr. Bussard had been suffering from a heart and stomach ailment for the past 3 ears, and for 2 years had also been blind. The Rev. Mr. Bussard was a minister in the Church of the Brethren for more than 50 years and was a charter member of the New Paris Church. Surviving are his wife, 3 daughters, Mrs. Aaron Neff of west of Goshen; Mrs. Charles Gardner of Bristol; and Mrs. Hamilton, 18 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was born in Cayuga County, NY Oct. 10, 1810 and was married to Eliza Kinyon, in Onondago County, NY Jan. 1, 1830. They moved to and settled in Orleans County NY and from
there came to Elkhart County, Ind. Sept. 29, 1843 and lived at various places in the vicinity of Benton. In 1850 or 51 he purchased 40 acres of land in Jackson township and moved on to it in the fall of the same year, where he lived until his death.

Mr. Bollinger was born in Ohio, June 23, 1872, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Bollinger. In 1897, he was married to Nora Cripe. They lived in and near Shipshewana until 1920 when they came to New Paris. Mr. Bollinger was employed as a rural mail carrier.
Surviving are his wife, Nora, 7 daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Bauer of Montpelier, Mrs. John Miller, of Goshen, Mrs. William Miller of New Paris, and Grace, Carrie, Mildred and Mary Louise; five sons, the Rev. Russell Bollinger of Topeka, and Benjamin, Rolland, Paul and John, all of New Paris; 11 grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Ira Bollinger of Illinois and Phares Bollinger of South Whitley.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the New Paris Church of the Brethren, of which Mr. Bollinger was a member. Burial in New Paris cemetery.
The funeral services were held on Wednesday, the 24h inst. At 2 o'clock at the Methodist church, with which he united in Feb., 1876, under the pastorate of Dr. Dustin. Knights of Pythias present ...our friend and brother Edward W.

Carl R. Bosse, Young Goshen Pilot, Killed In Texas Plane Crash
Visited by Parents When He Received Wings 2 Weeks Ago
The parents received word of the tragedy at 9 a.m. today in a telegram
from Col. Ralph E. Spake, commanding officer of the Long Beach, Calif.,
municipal airport, where Staff Sgt. Bosse was stationed. The message read
in part as follows:
"It is my sad duty to inform you of the death of your son, Carl R. Bosse,
at 2:30 Aug. 16, near Sweetwater, Tex. The sympathy of the entire personnel
of the Army Air Forces ferrying division is extended to you in the
bereavement of your son."
Also killed were 2nd Lt. John W.M. McMahan, 30, Long Beach, Cal., pilot;
and Pvt. Eugene E. Pence, 21, Godfrey, Ill. Bosse was co-pilot of the ship.
He received his silver wings on Aug. 5 with 26 other Indiana pilots at
ceremonies at the Gulf Coast Air Forces training center, Randolph field,
Tex.
Staff Sgt. Bosse was born in Goshen Aug. 13, 1920. He was a member of St.
John's Catholic church of Goshen.
