Daniel Guthrie, Patriot
Daniel Guthrie served in the French and Indian War and early in the Revolutionary War as a teamster. From accounts of the Bedford County [PA] Rangers of the Frontier, he then served as a Private in the Militia between 1778 and 1783. After the war, Daniel Guthrie and his family moved west through Virginia and Kentucky to Indiana where he settled and lived in Lawrence County where many of his descendents still live. He died on 17 September 1826, and is buried in the eastern part of the county near Leesville, IN.
The Daniel Guthrie Chapter
Established in 1987, the Daniel Guthrie Chapter serves Brown, Daviess, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange and Owen Counties. The Daniel Guthrie Chapter meets quarterly on the 3rd Tuesday of the months of February, May, August, and November at 7:00 PM

Indiana Society Sons of the American Revolution
The Indiana Society Sons of the American Revolution (Indiana SAR) coordinates the activities of the local chapters around the state. The Indiana SAR website contains a wide range of information including the Indiana SAR Color Guard activities, an events calendar, photo galleries, listings of state officers and committees, local chapters, state meeting schedules, minutes of past state meetings, the on-line edition of the state's newsletter The Hoosier Patriot, SAR youth programs, and a listing of Patriots buried in Indiana, including Daniel Guthrie. The Patriot Graves listing can be an excellent source of genealogical information for SAR applicants whose Patriot ancestor is buried in Indiana.
National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution
The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (National Society SAR) was organized on April 30, 1889, and chartered by Congress on June 9, 1906. It is an organization of over 27,000 male descendents of those Patriots, who, during the American Revolution, rendered loyal service to the cause of winning our independence from England. Today the SAR consists of 50 state societies with more than 450 local or regional SAR chapters.
Who is eligible for membership in the SAR? The SAR is a lineage society, which means that each member has traced and documented his family tree back to an ancestor who supported the cause of American Independence during the years 1774-1783.
The Membership section of the National Society SAR website contains further details on eligibility, how to join, documentation requirements, downloadable forms, research tips, etc. In addition, any Chapter officer or member will be willing to assist prospective applicants.
