If you are just starting out researching your family history in Bharat (India), then you might like to check out the Starting Out section.

If your ancestors were "Hindus" who cremate their dead, then you may have to find information from your relatives that are living or from the folks of the villages or towns in which they might have lived. If they had converted to christianity this page describes some cemeteries in South Asia, and has links to the British Association for Cemeteries in South Asia (BACSA).

Other Sources There are many sources for family history in India in addition to church and cemetery records. These include the Oriental and India Office Collections of the British Library (formerly records of the India Office).
