Morton Family Cemetery


The cemetery is located on the east bank of the Saint Mary River, off the Marion Center Road, Poe IN. This cemetery is no longer in use. We visited this site in April of 2011. No stones could be found at that time.

According to the Allen County Genealogical Society the Jared Morton family setteled in Marion Township in 1834. The family consisted of Jared, his 2nd wife Sarah Anderson Morton, John, a son of his first marriage to Mary Mayse who died in Virginia. A son, Mathew, was born soon after the family arrived in Indiana. Jared died in 1836, and Mathew died in 1837 from falling into a tub of scalding water. He was 2.
