Marriage Records
Marriage records from 1836 to the present are at the Adams County Clerk's Office in the Court House.

Indexes to marriage records 1845 - 1920 are at the Adams Public Library System at Decatur.

The Clerk's Office charges $1.00 per page for a copy of a marriage record or $2.00 for a certified copy.

Birth and Death Records


Birth and death records from 1882 to the present are at the Adams County Health Office. Birth records are not open to the public. You may see an individual record if you know the name and date, but the public may not search the birth record books.

Death records are open to the public and individuals may search them. Indexes for records from 1882 to 1920 are at the Adams Public Library System at Decatur.

Here are the fees for various services at the Health Department (effective Oct. 1, 2006):
Genealogy search - $1; Genealogy hard copies - $5 ( it is not a certified copy); Certified Birth/Death Certificate - $10; Combo Birth Certificate - $15.

Individuals may write for copies. When writing, give the name, date of birth or death and the place of birth or death. Enclose the fee and a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Estate Records

The Adams County Clerk's Office has an index to administratorships and records of wills from 1837 to the present.

Files of Administratorships

An index to these records is at the Adams Public Library System at Decatur. These records have been moved to the Adams County Law Enforcement Center. These records are available 24 hours a day by asking at the front desk.

The Adams County Law Enforcement Center is located at First and Adams Streets, near downtown Decatur.

Naturalization Records

Adams Public Library System at Decatur has copies of some of the original naturalizations and letters of intent. The library also has abstracts of naturalizations found in the probate court books at the Adams County Law Enforcement Center.
