Williamson County was originally part of Franklin County.
In 1839, Williamson County was established. The history of "Bloody Williamson" includes family feuds, trouble in the coal fields, bootleggers, and deadly tornadoes.

*This index to Williamson County deaths (1916 to 1950) is extracted from the Illinois Department of Public Health Archives. Buck Childers compiled this information and has generously allowed it to be added to the Williamson County site. The list was compiled to give researchers an opportunity to locate persons, by family group, who are listed in the Illinois Archives. In order to request a copy of the death certificate, the registration number must be obtained from the Illinois Department of Public Health Archives. A link to the archives is at the top of each page.
