couldn�t find a connection to
great great grandfather John
Gaines.(Union soldier-Carmi,IL)
I am guessing, but I think that we are not from the VA group ,
I think
our Gaines started out �Gain_ in Maryland, Baltimore
County, the next
generation moved to East TN, Washington
County,_Gains_, the next
generation Monroe County, TN. then
White Co.,IL and were �Gaines_.

Henderson and wife Dorcus in 1850, married Tabitha
Holderby in 1854 in
White county IL.
So what I�m thinking is Joshua Gaines was married to a
HENDERSON;
In 1840 I checked the census for Henderson in Monroe County
TN.

It looks like the Gains and Henderson�s all lived together, and
Henderson could be one of our family names.
Then on John Gaines� wife�s side;
I did find some marriage records that add another surname to the
family list almost certainly, FELIX! and maybe ESTES!
Grandpa Hilliard Gaines�s mother was Tabitha HOLDERBY, she was
the daughter of Nancy Jane HARVEY and Nathaniel HOLDERBY.
IN THE 1850 CENSUS in White County, IL, Nancy and Nathaniel
have 2 old people living with them, Betsy Harvey b: VA 1774 and
Samuel Felix b:VA 1779,
Liz burns ( another Holderby descendant) suggested that Betsy
Harvey was Nancy�s mother and Samuel Felix was Betsy�s younger
brother. I followed this lead and found the following info that
leads me to believe that all these Harvey girls and one boy
getting married in White county, IL are related, sisters and /or
cousins.
I looked in the Kentucky records (That�s where Nathaniel
Holderby and Nancy and Sussanah Harvey were born in the early
1800�s), I didn�t find anything.
I then went through all the marriage records in early Virginia
counties, and I found the marriage records in Orange Co., VA,
there was a HARVEY marrying a FELIX, bingo.
So I think Nancy Jane Harvey�s mother was Elizabeth FELIX and
her father was John HARVEY.
The names �Nancy_ and �Sussanah_ and �Sarah or Sally_ are
Harvey names.
Tabitha Holderby and John GAines named one of their children
�Sarah_ and one �Lucy_. Lucy ESTES married to John Harvey could
have been Tabitha�s grandmother.
So �ESTES_ might be another family name.
I made these guesses based on these records....

and sibblings. America was born 23 Oct 1827 and married
Jerimiah B. HAILE, 19 Mar 1848, in Hamilton Co., IL. The only
sibblings found in my Grandmother's Bible were, Henry, Prudence
Olive, and Emily. Grandmother had a "?" for more sibblings and
'names not known' and all the children were born in TN.
Both America and Jerimiah died in Wayne Co., IL in 1877 and in
the family Bibles state they were buried in the 'family cemetary
in Grayville, IL'. I am looking for any information on this
cemetary.
Emily married Ewing YOUNG in Hamilton Co., IL on 16 Dec 1841 and
they lived in Wayne Co., IL. In the book of 'The History of
Wayne Co., IL', it stated that Emily was the daughter of Robert
CRAVENS and he lived in White Co., IL.
Appreciate any information on this CRAVENS line.

Allen RICE, in which a John GOSSETT age 16 resided. John D.
