MOUNT MORRIS INDEX unknown date May 1936

DEATH TAKES VETERAN FARMER EARLY SUNDAY

Martin Zellers, life-long farmer of Silver Creek vicinity, four miles northeast of Mount Morris, died about 1:30 o'clock Sunday morning after an illness of several years duration. A paralytic stroke suffered only an hour before his demise is thought to have been immediate cause of his passing. (Hand written dated 1936 May 24) Mr. Zellers was a Christian gentleman of the highest integrity, and his death marks the end of the prominent pioneer Daniel Zellers' family of seven children, namely, Mrs. Nettie Stine; Mrs. Ella Rowe; Mrs. Sarah Long (incorrect Roland), and John; Daniel; David; and Martin Zellers. Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the home and later at the Church of the Brethren, of which the deceased had long been a member. The rites were in charge of Rev. F.E. McCune and burial was made at Silver Creek Cemetery. Martin Zellers was born in Mount Morris Township, Nov. 14, 1863, the son of Daniel and Mary Long Zellers and at death had attained the age of 72 years, 6 months, and 10 days. On Dec. 23, 1885 he was united in marriage to Miss Annie M. Keedy, who preceeded him in death, Jan. 2, 1930. Surviving are five sons: Wilbur and Floyd, Leaf River; Edward, Joliet; Ernest, South Bend, Ind.; and Carl, Mount Morris; also ten grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
