Jonathan A. Powell (1838-1923) Obituary

Obituary:

Jonathan A. Powell, son of Upton and Ann Powell, was born September 9, 1838, at Clear Spring, Maryland, and died in his home in Polo, Illinois, August 1, 1923, aged eighty-four years, ten months, and twenty-five days.

He was the last of a family of eight children. When sixteen years of age he came with his parents across country by wagon to Pine Creek, near Polo.

On December 25, 1862 he was married to Catherine A. Bomberger. To this union were born five children; Ida A., Verna M., Bert M., Clinton E., and Curtis F. Three children; Ida A., Verna M., and Clinton E. have preceded him in death.

Those left to mourn are his wife, two sons, seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, besides a host of friends.

He was a just and upright man, respected by all who knew him. It can be truthfully said that he was never unfair, or harbored any ill will toward any person in his life. What more can be said of any man.

The funeral was held from the home at 2:30 P.M., Monday afternoon and was very largely attended. Rev. Arthur Cates officated and burial was made in Fairmount Cemetery.
