Hiram Wood (1810-1900) Obituary

Hiram Wood for thirty years, a respected resident of Ogle County, died at his home in Creston on Thursday last, scarcely a week after he had celebrated his ninetieth birthday anniversary. The deceased had been very feeble for a number of years and about a year ago his good wife and companion preceded him to the other world and it was conceded that the separation of this worthy old couple would be for no great length of time.

Hiram Wood was born in Cayuga Co., New York, Dec.11,1810 and resided in that vicinity until 1835 when he was united in marriage to the good wife whose death as above noted, occurred December 31st. of last year.

In company with his wife and personal effects, Mr. Wood came west in 1835 and located in Will County, Ill., where the family made their home until the year 1842, when they removed to Ogle County and settled near Paynes Point. In 1869 they left the farm and removed to Creston where the remainder of their lives were spent. The deceased had been a Christian in all that the word implies for many years and for 65 years a member of the M.E. Church. Of the family of five sons and one daughter, two sons and the daughter have preceded the parents to the other shore; three sons remaining E.S. Wood of Paynes Point, one son residing in Nebraska and John Wood of Creston who has remained in faithful and constant care of his aged parents for many years. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Fehlandt and Rev. R,H. Reed on Friday last, after which the remains were taken by carriage to Paynes Point where burial was made at the family lot at that place.
