HERMAN W. HAGEMANN DIES

Mr. Herman William Hagemann was born in Sonneberg, in Lippe Detmoldt, in Germany, on November 17, 1865.

He was baptized and confirmed in his native Germany. He came to America in 1884 and settled near North Grove, and first worked for Mt. Christian Brockmeier, Senior, and for five years he worked for Fred Mueller.

He was married to Miss Katherine Funk on December 22, 1892, by the Reverend Biesemeier. This union God has blessed with 11 children, seven daughters and four sons. Three daughters: Ella, Dorothy, and Emma preceded their father to eterniity. Also three infant children preceded their father in death. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Hagemann settled on the farm where Mr. Hagemann passed away.

They lived on the farm until 1921 when they moved to Leaf River where they resided until Mrs. Hagemann was called home about five years ago. For about two years, Mr. Hagemann made his home with his son, Walter, on the farm.

Mr. Hagemann has not been well for some time but his sickness was not considered serious until about nidnight last Sunday a week ago, from that time he grew steadily worse, his ailment settling into pneumonia. It pleased our heavenly Father to call him home to his eternal reward at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 31, 1940. He had reached the age of 74 years, 8 months, and 14 days.

Mr. Hagemann leaves to mourn his departure three daughters: Clara, Mrs. Arthur Paul and family; Susie, Mrs. Johannes Norup and family; and Bertha, Mrs. Lester Moore and family; two sons, Clarence and family, and Walter and family; one brother, Henry, in Germany; two sisters, Mollie, in Germany, and Rickea, in Centerville, So. Dak.; 10 grandchildren, a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 3, from the former home near Leaf River at 1:30 and at Zion Evangelical Church at Adeline at 2: p.m. Interment was made in the Adeline Cemetery at Adeline.
