About MCGS


The Massac County Genealogical Society was formed in April 1992. The Society has grown each year and its purpose was, and still is, to publish and preserve the records of Massac County, Illinois for future generations.The Societies Genealogical Collection is housed in the Metropolis Public Library, 317 Metropolis Street, Metropolis, IL  62960.
Hours are:
Monday - Thursday: 12N - 7pm
Friday: 11am - 5pm
Saturday: 12N - 5pm
Closed Sundays

The Society will do research for those unable to visit the county personally.

The Society meets monthly on the third Saturday of each month at 1:00 PM Genealogy section of the Metropolis Public Library. Visitors are welcome!

The Massac County Genealogical Society participates in area genealogical seminars, fairs and other meetings. We help support the Metropolis Community by assisting with various community projects such as the Annual Friends of the Library Book Fair held during the Encampment weekend of the 3rd Saturday of October.
