STICE, ARTHUR LEE

Arthur Lee Stice was born May 27, 1882 in Scott county, Ill., the son of William and Nancy Jane Stice. He spent his entire life in the vicinity of Winchester.

He was married March 16, 1904 to Kate Hoots.

Surviving are his wife Kate, and the following children: Floyd and Tom of Alton, Ill.; Mrs. Edna Peterson, and Mrs. Lecie Campbell, Winchester, Ill.; Mrs. Leta Robinson, Florence, Ill.; and Cordell Stice, Chapin, Ill.; 28 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, one sister, Mary Ralaford, and one brother, William Stice, of Pittsfield, Ill., and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.

"Auk" as he was known by his many friends will be greatly missed because he always had a cheerful word for everyone. His jovial disposition will be remembered by all, who knew him.

He was a member of the Bloomfield Baptist church for 30 years.

Funeral services for Mr. Stice were held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church in Winchester, with Rev. F. V. Wright, pastor of the church, officiating. Two vocal selections, "Lord I'm Coming Home" and "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me," were sung by Mrs. Maxine Coultas and Joyce Coultas, accompanied by Mrs. Jas. Bailey, organist.

Pallbearers were Robert Stice, Lyman Stice, Kenneth Stice, Geo. Hoots, Rube Stevens and Junior Peterson. Flower girls were Wanda Stice, Jean Gable, Marjorie Peterson, Hazel Moss, Rosie Hoots, Mary Cowden, Shirley Robinson, Clara Elizabeth Barnett and Ruby Stice.

Burial was in the City cemetery.

Kate Stice, 100,
dies Saturday

Winchester - Kate Stice, 100, of Winchester died Saturday afternoon, April 30 at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield.

She was born Sept. 27, 1887 in Scott County, a daughter of H.W. "Lace" and Ella Jackson Hoots. She married Arthur Lee Stice on March 16, 1904 in Scott County and he died in 1951.

She is survived by six children, Floyd of Cottage Hills, Edna Peterson of Roodhouse, Tom of Alton, Leta Robinson of Florence, Lecie Campbell of Pittsfield and Cordell of Winchester; 35 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Hoots of Winchester.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Wylie, Leonard, Bill, Harry and Roy; and two sisters, Bertha Havens and Nellie Anders.

She was the oldest living member of Bloomfield Baptist Church.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester with burial at Winchester City Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday, with the family to meet with friends from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Winchester Emergency Medical Service.
