Thurman R. Hill died at San Bernadino, CA on March 17th, after a long illness from Tuberculosis. He and his family had gone to CA a few years ago for the benefit of his health. Funeral services were held and internment made at San Bernadino. His mother was able to go to CA recently to be with him but his father, Dr. T.C. Hill, was compelled to remain at home in Kirkwood, MO. on account of ill health.

The deceased was about 35 years of age. He was born and reared to manhood in the Sweetwater neighborhood. He was a graduate from a Chicago Veterinary school. He is survived by his widow ( Bessie A. Redmon) and two children, besides parents, and one brother, ( Dr.) Thomas G. Hill of Springfield, IL and a sister Mary Rathsack of St. Louis.

Mrs. Lettie A. Hill, of Athens, died at her residence at 3:30 a.m. Thursday. She was 77 years old. Mrs. Hill had been a resident of Athens for 55 years. She graduated from the Betty Stuart Institute in 1896 and was married to Dr. T.F. Hill on Act. 10, 1899, in Buffalo. Mrs. Hill was a member of Indian Point Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband; one son, Dr. Harold Hill of U.S. naval hospital, Bethesda, MD; one daughter, Mrs. Louise Winterbauer, of Arlington Heights; one sister, Mrs. Frances Ellington, of Springfield, and five grandchildren. The body is at Mott & Son Funeral Home, Athens where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Rev. S.P. Taylor, assisted by Rev. J.W. Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Athens- H. Louise Hill Winterbauer, 83, of Wilmette, formerly of Chicago and Athens, died at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kenilworth Union Church, Kenilworth.

Internment was private.

William H. Scott Funeral Home, Wilmette, is in charge of arrangements.

Surviving are her husband, Henry T. Winterbauer; one daughter, Joan W. Lipe of Winnetka; one son, DR. Richard Winterbauer of Mercer Island, Washington,; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dr. Harold Hill of San Jose, CA.

Henry T. Winterbauer, 92, of Evanston died Monday, August 2, 1999, at Evanston Hospital.

He was born July 31, 1906, in Fancy Prairi. He was preceded in death by his wife, H. Louise Winterbauer.

Mr. Winterbauer was a graduate of the University of Illinois. He held a seat on the board of trade and was a manufacturer of sporting equipment. He was a former resident of Arlington Heights, Chicago and Wilmette.

Surviving a daughter, Joan W. Lipe, of Winnetka; a son, Dr. Richard ( wife, Dianna) Winterbauer of Seattle, Washington; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Philip ( wife, Audrey) Winterbauer of Springfield.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, Aug. 3 at King Home, Evanston. Private burial will be held. Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home in Evanston was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. T. G. Hill, former resident of this community, died at 9:20 p.m., Wednesday, May 10 at his home in Springfield following an illness of several years. He was 69 years of age.

Dr. Hill moved from this community to Springfield in 1941.

Surviving are his wife, Dolly, of Springfield: three sons, Dr. Vincent, Dr. Russell, of Springfield, and Tom, serving with the U.S. Army in France; a daughter, Kay, at home; mother, Mrs. Mollie Hill, of Greenview; a sister, Mrs. Robert Rathsack of Greenview; and several grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Kirlin & Egan funeral home in Springfield with Rev. Charles Babcock and Rev. John Honey officiating. Burial was made in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Dr. Tolbert F. Hill, the nation's oldest doctor, died about 4:15 p.m. Thursday, in Memorial Medical Center, just two days short of his 108th birthday.

Hill's career began in a time when a horse and buggy was the way a doctor made house calls. At the end of his active medical practice, Hill estimated he had delivered about 2,300 babies in the Athens area, including, he told a reporter, a few "in barns and things."

Hill came from a medical family that spawned several physicians. Hill's father was a doctor and former slave owner who moved to Illinois from the south. He knew Abraham Lincoln and was nearly lynched for his southern sympathies during the Civil War.

Hill and all four of his brothers graduated from Rush Medical School in Chicago, which at the time was the medical department of the University of Chicago.

When Hill moved to Athens in 1898, two years after graduating from college, he was only the town's fourth doctor. For the next 57 years, he was the only doctor the town needed.

Doctoring wasn't Hill's only service to Athens. He served two terms as mayor, was on the school board, and served as a member of the board and president of the Athens State Bank.

Hill went into semi-retirement in 1955 with the death of his wife, Lettie. However, he continued a limited practice until 1969 when he saw his last patient at the age of 95.

Hill married the former Lettie Herrin of Buffalo on Oct. 9. 1898. They had a son, Harold, and a daughter, Louise Winterbauer. Continuing family tradition, , Harold, is a doctor in San Jose, CA, while Louise's son is a doctor on the west coast.

During an interview, on his 107th birthday last year, Hill told a reporter he didn't pay much attention to age. "I just live one day at a time. I've lived such a good life, I just hate to give it up."
