Mrs. Eveline Elkin, Aged 87, Is Dead
Dies at Residence of Her Daughter Near Mechanicsburg.
Decedent Born in This City in House Which Was Located at the Present Site of Ide's Foundry.
Elkin - Died, at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, May 1, 1914, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. S. T. Fullenwider, two and a one-half miles east of Mechanicsburg, Mrs. Eveline Elkin, aged 87 years, 7 months and 16 days.
Funeral services will be held at the residence of Mrs. Fullenwider at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning, Rev. Mr. Engle officiating, assisted by Rev. George V. Meinel, pastor of the Methodist church, Mechanicsburg. Following the services the remains with the funeral party will leave Mechanicsburg in a special car over the Illinois Traction system for Springfield at 1 o'clock, and on arrival here will be taken direct to Oak Ridge cemetery, where interment will be made.
Decedent had lived all her life in Sangamon county, having been born in Springfield Sept. 15, 1826, in a dwelling located on the present site of the Ide foundry at Fifth and Madison streets.
She was a lifelong member of the Christian church and was a member of the Sangamon County Old Settler's association.
In Springfield in 1843 she was united in marriage with John Elkin, and five years later they removed to Mechanicsburg, where Mr. Elkin was engaged in business until his death in 1867. Mrs. Elkin then went to maker her home with her daughter at whose residence her death occurred.
Surviving are one son, Arthur F. Elkin of Eureka, and one daughter, Mrs. S. T. Fullenwider. Two daughters, Mrs. O. H. Correll of Taylorville and Mrs. W. A. Fullenwider preceded her in death a number of years ago.
