INGELS, ARTHUR D.

Aug. 1981

Arthur D. Ingels, 77, of 2037 Greenbriar Road died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday. He was born in Glenarm, the son of John and Adella Drennan Ingels, and married Lucile Snyder in 1940. Mr. Ingels was assistant cashier at First National Bank for 39 years before his retirement in 1969. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, secretary of the Washington Street Mission for many years, and former treasurer of the Visiting Nurses Association of Springfield. Surviving are his wife Lucile (Snyder); one sister, Mrs. Helen Byers of Chatham; several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Roger Compton officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.


BARBEE, BESS J. WARD EPLEY

Bess J. Barbee, 98, of Auburn died Monday at Parks Memorial Convalescent Center in Auburn. She was born June 4, 1896, in Clarksburg, the daughter of Charles A. and Myrtilla M. Todd Ward. She married Gus Epley, who proceeded he in death. She married Duncan Barbee in 1951. He also proceeded her in death. Mrs. Barbee was a home maker and a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors: three grandchildren; five great-grand children; a brother Paul T. Ward of Englewood, Fla.; and a sister, Katherine Ruth Rosborough of Chicago. Remains were cremated. Private burial of ashes in Auburn Cemetery at a later date. Berry Funeral Home in Auburn is in charge of arrangements.

Prominent Retired Grain Dealer Dies

Mr. Byron Barbee, respected and prominent citizen of Auburn for many years, died at his home in this city at 8:15 a. m. Wednesday, November 1. Mr. Barbee was born three miles east of Auburn, May 3, 1862, a son of Joseph C. Barbee and Sarah Wrightsman Barbee. His early education was received in the country schools. He graduated from Shurtleff College, Alton, in 1886. Following his graduation he taught in the Pawnee schools for a period of four years. On December 29, 1892 he married Miss Mary Jane McTaggart of Pawnee.

The active business life of Mr. Barbee began about 1895 when he became interested in the Auburn Roller Mill. His activities in this company were continued until 1929 when he retired from active business because of ill health. During his connection with the mill in this city he also operated an elevator and implement business in Glenarm for ten years.

Mr. Barbee was the first president of the Auburn Township High School Board of Education and presided during the construction of the present building. He also served a number of years on the high school board. He was an alderman on the city council for quite a few years and prominent in many civic organizations. Mr. Barbee was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Masonic lodges of Auburn.

Mr. Barbee has been in failing health for a number of years and for the past several months has been practically confined to his home. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Barbee; two daughters, Mrs. Kathleen LaRue, Springfield: Mrs. Cecelia Ingels, DeSoto, Missouri; one son, Duncan, this city; and one brother, Wallace Barbee of Oakland, California. Funeral services for Mr. Barbee will be held this (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock in the local Baptist church. Interment will be in the Auburn cemetery


BARBEE, C. D.

Barbee - Died at 4:30 pm Saturday April 24, 1909, at the residence in Auburn, of pneumonia, C.D. Barbee, aged 79 years. The arrangements for the funeral have not been completed and will be announced later. Decedent is survived by his wife, Mary Barbee: three sons, Sanford of Springfield, Ira of Herron, Ill. , and Otis of Auburn. One daughter, Maggie of Auburn, one brother Joseph of Auburn.


BARBEE, DUNCAN J.

Duncan J. Barbee, 85, of Auburn died at noon Saturday at the Dirksen House. He was born in Illinois the son of Byron and Mary Jane McTaggart Barbee. Before his retirement he was a partner and operater of Ramsey & Barbee Chevrolet in Auburn. He attended Millikin University in Decatur. Mr. Barbee was a member of the Auburn First Baptist Church, Ansar Shrine and Past Grand Master of the Auburn Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Bess Janet (Ward); two sisters, Mrs. Cecelia Ingels of DeSoto, Mo. and Mrs. Kathleen LaRue of West Palm Beach, Fl.; four nieces and 1 nephew. Remains were cremated. Ashes to be buried in Auburn Cemetery. Berry Funeral Home, Auburn is in charge of arrangements.

LOCKRIDGE, ELIZABETH ANN: Died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 1914, at the King's Daughters' Old Ladies home, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Lockridge aged 80 years, 1 month and 24 days. The funeral services will be held at 10:30 o'clock tomorrow morning at the home. Rev F. H. Given officiating. The remains will be forwarded at 2:40 o'clock in the afternoon to Auburn, where interment will be made in Auburn cemetery Decedent was born in Auburn Nov. 30, 1831. She is survived by one son, Charles Frazier of Mexico, MO

ELLA LOCKRIDGE, 80, DIES AT AUBURN

Auburn, Jan 17, Mrs. Ella Lockridge, 80 years old, died at 2 o'clock this morning at her home in this city. Mrs. Lockridge is survived by one daughter, Mrs. B. F. Lewis; and two grandsons, Robert Lewis, Springfield and Wilber Lewis, Chicago. Funeral arrangements are incomplete but will be conducted at the home with Rev. W. S. Neely. Internment will be made in Auburn cemetery

BARBEE -- Died, Sunday, February 10, at the residence in Auburn, Mrs. Ida L. Barbee, aged 28 years. Mrs. Barbee's death was due to consumption. She had been ill for the past year. She was the wife of T. M. Barbee, who survived her. The funeral will be held today at 2 o'clock at the C. P. church in Auburn. Services will be conducted by Rev. Mr. Howe of Nashville, Tenn. The remains will be interred in the Auburn cemetery.

BARBEE - died at 3:15 o'clock Saturday afternoon, June 12 1916, at the residence of his niece, Mrs. George Lloyd, in Auburn, of paralysis, Joseph C. Barbee aged 78 years, 11 month, and 26 days.

The funeral will be held at 3:15 o'clock, Monday afternoon at the Baptist Church in Auburn. Rev. A. A. Harnley officiating. The internment will take place in Auburn Cemetery. The decedent, who was one of the best known residents of Auburn vicinity, was born in Tennessee, June 17 1836, and came to Illinois in 1852, settling in Jefferson County. He came to Auburn in 1858 and for a time was a farmer, though he retired from this occupation 17 years ago. His wife was Sarah F. Wrightsman, to whom he was married February 26, 1859, and who died in 1908. Three sons survive, Byron of Auburn, Frank E. of Glenarm, and Wallace S. of Chicago. Three children are dead. The decedent was a member of the Auburn Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Fraternity.


LARUE, KATHLEEN BARBEE

Mrs. Kathleen Barbee LaRue, 95, of West Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Springfield, died at 2:10 p.m. Saturday (Mar. 16, 1991) at Good Samaritan Hospital, West Palm Beach. She was born Aug 22, 1895, in Auburn, the daughter of Byron and Mary Jane (McTaggart) Barbee. Preceding her in death were her husband, John M. LaRue: one daughter, Dorothy Jane LaRue Huff; one sister, Dorothy; and one brother Duncan (all of Auburn). Mrs. LaRue was a graduate of Brown's Business college and worked as a secretary until her retirement Surviving are one son, John B. LaRue of Chatham, three grandchildren; one greatgrandson and one sister, Mrs. J. P. Ingels of DeSoto, MO. Services will be at 11:00 am Thursday at West Palm Beach , Fla.

AUBURN WOMAN IS CALLED BY DEATH

MRS. LEANAH F. BARBEE DIES AT HER HOME AFTER YEAR'S ILLNESS

Deceased native of Virginia, but had been prominent resident of Sangamon County since 1857.

Barbee - died at 10:45 o'clock Wednesday evening, November 9,1910 at her residence in Auburn. Mrs. Leanah F. Barbee, aged 66 years, 10 months, and 9 days. The funeral arrangements will be made later. Mrs. Barbee, who has been ill for the last year suffering from a complication of diseases, was born in Botadout County, Va., Jan. 30 1844, and moved to Sangamon County with her parents in 1857. On Feb. 12, 1861, she was married to Calvin D. Barbee. Her husband died in 1908. Mrs. Barbee united with Cumberland Preservation Church of Auburn when she was 14 years old and always has lead a devout Christian life. She was highly respected and loved by all who knew her. Decedent is survived by one daughter, Miss Margaret M. Barbee of Auburn, and three sons W. S. of this city, Ira C. of Benton, and Otis E. of Auburn.

MRS. MILDRED BARBEE. Auburn, March 16. Mrs. Mildred Barbee, 48, a lifelong resident of Auburn, died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital, Springfield, following a short illness. Mrs. Barbee was born Aug 31, 1901, in Auburn. On April 16, 1922 she was married to Duncan Barbee. In addition to her husband she is survived by her father, Cyrus Bigler, Auburn; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Lull, Auburn, and Mrs. Virginia Nash, Elmhurst, and one brother, Paul W. , Chicago. Private funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Willis funeral Home. Rev. Normal Richardson, assisted by Rev. Stanley Wiese, will officiate. Burial will be in Auburn cemetery. Remains may be viewed at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today and until the time of services tomorrow.
