  OBERKOTTER  Heinrich "Henry" Oberkotter was born in West Kilver, Prussia, in the parish of Roedinghausen. Dick believes that he came to the United States in about 1852. He lived in Ohio for a few years, then moved to Wisconsin for a short period of time, then came to Morgan county in the late 1850's. He married Dick's Great Aunt, Rebecca Wohlers on 1 March 1866. The couple continued to live in Morgan/Scott County until about 1873 when they moved to Lafayette County, Missouri, in the area around Corder. They resided in that area for about twelve years and then moved to Geneva, Fillmore County, Nebraska, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Henry died 6 January 1907 and Rebecca died on 18 December 1932, both on their farm in Geneva township, Fillmore County, Nebraska. They are both interred in Geneva Cemetery. They were the parents of thirteen children, and of those children, an infant son, Martin Oberkotter is buried in Neelyville Cemetery near Neelyville, Scott County, Illinois. During their residence in Morgan County, Henry enlisted and served with the military, Battery A, First Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Light Artillery during the Civil War. Submitted by Dick Wohlers |
