NATHAN LEROY MARTIN

1829 - 1913

This picture is of my (recently discovered) Great-Uncle, Nathan LeRoy Martin, who was born in Greensburg, Kentucky in 1829 to William & Mariah (Chapman) Martin. His younger brother, John A. Martin, was my grandfather. Brothers, Nathan LeRoy & John A. Martin, moved to Petersburg and each married Menard County women. (A third brother, Aaron Martin, lived with Nathan & Rhoda in Petersburg for a time according to the census). John Married Rachel Kinney (my grandparents) and Nathan married Rhoda Elizabeth Ferguson. John & Rachel lived out the remainder of their lives in Petersburg, while Nathan & Rhoda eventually moved on to Mason County, Illinois and the state of Missouri.

Nathan fathered 8 children with Rhoda. The first 7 were born in Menard or Mason County, Illinois. Rhoda died in 1882 leaving Nathan with young children. Nathan married Cynthia Ann Flood about 1883 and fathered 5 more children. At some point he settled in the state of Kansas. Nathan Leroy Martin died in Atchison Kansas on February 21, 1913 and is buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Troy, KS.
