Dr. Green Hill


Dr. Green Hill was the son of William Hickman & Sally Brown Hill. He was born 1 Jul 1813 near Franklin, Williamson Co., TN. He died 28 Nov 1892 at Middletown, Logan Co., IL and is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL. He first came to Illinois in 1836 via horseback, the trip taking 10 days. He had also resided in Columbus, Mississippi for two years before moving to Elkhart, IL.

His third wife was Martha Caldwell Hill. The couple were the parents of five sons, all of whom also became physicians: Green E., Thomas C., John H., Harry C. and Tolbert F. Hill. Dr. Green Hill was acquainted with Abraham Lincoln who called him "Greenberry Hill", but opposed him politically. He was a member of the Broadwell Christian Church.
