JONATHAN MOSS, CIVIL WAR VET. TAKEN BY DEATH
Aged resident of Morgan County Passes Away Here Tuesday
The death of Jonathan L. Moss, one of the city's oldest residents, and veteran of the Civil War, occurred at the home of this son, Arthur L. (E.) Moss, on Tuesday evening at 6:15 o'clock, following a brief illness.
Mr. Moss was born in Morgan County, February 22, 1839, the son of William and Rachel Moss, being at the time of his death 92 years, two months and six days of age. He was the sole survivor of a family of seventeen children.
For many years the decedent followed the occupation of farming. He was a soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War, and at its close was united in marriage with Adeline (Sarah Adeline) Smith who preceded him in death.
He is survived by four children: William and Arthur of this city, Mrs. Clara (L.) Sweetser of California ( Centralia Wash.),and Edward of Washington (Selah, Wash.)(George of Beardstown, Ill.).
The body was removed to the Gillham Funeral home, and will be taken to the residence on East Independence Street today. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

FUNERAL
Jonathan Moss
Funeral services for Jonathan L. Moss, aged Morgan county citizen and Civil War veteran, were conducted Thursday morning at 10o'clock at the Gillham Funeral Home, Rev. Fred Conover officiating. Interment was made in the Moss Cemetery, near Jacksonville.
Mrs. George Gobbs (Gibbs) and Miss Irene Moss were in care of the floral tributes.
The casket bearers were Lee Bourn, Orville (Orval) Moss, Alfred Moss, George Gibbs, Charles Goolsby, and Glenn Standley.

OBITUARY
Jonathan L. Moss, one of the city's oldest residents and a veteran of the Civil War, passed away at the home of his son, Arthur E. Moss, on Tuesday evening, April 28th, at 6:15 o'clock following a brief illness.
Mr. Moss was born in Morgan County February 22, 1839, the son of William and Rachel Moss, being at the time of this death 92 years, 2 months and 6 days of age. He was the sole survivor of a family of seventeen children. For many years the decedent followed the occupation of farming. He was a soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War.
He was united in marriage to Miss Martha Smith, who preceded him in death. To this union one son was born. Charles L. Moss of Butler, Pa. Later he was united in marriage to Adeline (Sarah Adeline) Smith, who also preceded him in death. To this union five children were born, one daughter, Mrs. Clara L. Sweetser, of Centralia Wash., and four sons, William and Arthur, of Jacksonville, and Edward of Selah, Wash., George, of Beardstown, Ill. He also leave a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Gillham Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Fred Conover. Interment was in the Moss Cemetery.
