Doris B. Hubble, 74, dies Friday at home

Services set for Doris Hubble

Funeral services for Doris B. Hubble will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Alsey Baptist Church in Alsey, with burial at Bowers Cemetery near Alsey.

The body will lie in state one hour before the service. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Sunday at Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester, with the family to meet friends 6-8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Harold Hubble, 82, once of Alsey, dies

WINCHESTER - Harold B. Hubble, 82, of Jacksonville and formerly of Alsey, died Thursday evening, Nov. 15, 1990, at Passavant Hospital.

He was born Nov. 2, 1908, in Scott County, the son of Thomas and Kate Whitney Hubble. He married Doris Shandrow on June 21, 1930, in Manchester. She died Aug. 12, 1988.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Lucille) Young of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Hicks and Kenneth Young, both of Jacksonville, Phil Young of Brunswick, Ga. and Gene Hubble of Shreveport, La.; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by on son, Tommy in 1971; two sisters, Alice Guinan and Pauline Beiermann; and five brothers, Elmer, Frank, Austin, Russell and Paul Hubble.

Mr. Hubble was a member of the Alsey Baptist Church and was employed as a security officer for the Manteno State Hospital until his retirement in 1976.

Arrangements are pending at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.

Russell C. Hubble until five years ago a resident of Jacksonville, died Saturday, September 13, at St. John's hospital in Springfield. He had made his home in Springfield since leaving Jacksonville.

For the past year he had been in failing health.

He was born in Scott County July 10, 1897, a son of Thomas H. and Kate Whitney Hubble. He was united in marriage with Opal Steelman Feb. 10, 1923. She survives.

He also leaves three brothers, Elmer of Peoria, Frank of Chicago, and Harold of Alsey; and two sister, Mrs. Jess Guinnane of Chicago and Mrs. Lawrence Beierman of Alton.

The decedent was a veteran of World War I, having served 13 months with the Marines. He belonged to American Legion Post 278 and to the Springfield V. F. W. post 755, and was a member of the Modern Woodmen.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Whitney of this city, cousins of the deceased, attended the funeral, Mr. Whitney serving as a casket bearer.

Kate Whitney Hubble, Daughter of Orlando and Sophia Curtis Whitney was born Oct. 16, 1869. The home was near Manchester, Ill., where she spent her childhood days. She was educated in the schools of Manchester, where she was also active in the work of the Christian Church; her father having founded and started the Christian Church there.

On October 18, 1888, she was married to T. H. Hubble of Alsey, Ill. To this union eight children were born, all surviving except one son, Paul, who died in infancy.

Mrs. Hubble has spent her entire life in this community. She was known for her many cheerful disposition and love for her family and neighbors.

Even though her last years were more or less spent in an invalid's chair, she bore her sufferings with patience, and as one was heard to remark, she was more interested in the welfare of her friends than in her own self.

She leaves to mourn her going her husband, her brother, A. Whitney, of White Hall; five sons, Elmer, Frank, Austin, Russell, Harold; Two daughters, Alice and Pauline; twelve grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from the Baptist church in Alsey, Friday afternoon, March 17, 1944, at two o'clock, Rev. R. L. Schwab officiating.

Music was furnished by singers from the Christian Church choir at Glasgow, with Mrs. Lola Coats as accompanist.

The flower girls were Lanie Leitze, Beulah Coats, Osee Hoots, Edith McGlasson, Catherine McLean, Rita DeGuide, Marlyn Hubble and Lucille Hubble.

Interment was in the Bowers Cemetery, the pall bearers being Howard Whitney, Clarence Dobson, Creed Leitze, Harley Hanback, Cornelius Woodall and Basil Northrop.

WHITE HALL - Oct. 5- Thomas Henry Hubble, 91, a resident of the Barber Nursing Home the last three and one half years, died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday at Alton Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient three days after being transferred from the White Hall Hospital.

He was born July 27, 1867, in Alsey the son of Levi and Malisa Hubble. He married Kate Whitney in 1888. She died in 1944

He is survived by three sons, Harold, Manteno; Elmer, Peoria; Frank, address unknown; two daughters, Mrs. Jess Guianne, Chicago, Mrs. Lawrence Bierman, Alton; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Alsey Baptist Church, the Rev. Garfield Rogers, assisted by the Rev. John Plunkett, officiating. Burial will be in Bowers Cemetery.

Remains are at the Dawdy Funeral Home.
