Verner Van Bebber of city dies

MURRAYVILLE - Verner Van Bebber, 89, of Jacksonville, and formerly of the Murrayville area, died Sunday afternoon, March 27, at Jacksonville Convalescent Center.

He was born Jan. 3, 1899, in Scottville, son of Algy and Della Stultz Van Bebber. He married Lois Spencer Oct. 20, 1926, and she survives.

Also surviving are a son, Lawrence of rural Murrayville; three sisters, Mrs. Allen (June) McKean and Mrs. Elbert (Lucille) Conlee, both of Jacksonville, and Mrs. Joe (Eunice) Landreth of Alton; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by two children who died in infancy, two brothers and a sister.

Mr. Van Bebber was a retired farmer, having farmed in the Nortonville area for 50 years, and was a member of the Youngblood Baptist Church in Nortonville.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mackey-Daws Funeral Home in Murrayville, with burial at Youngblood Cemetery in Nortonville. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with family to meet friends 6-8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Nortonville Youngblood Baptist church.
