Charles C. Spencer

Charles C. Spencer, a resident of the Nortonville community for many years, died Monday, May 16, at 6:30 a.m., at Oak Lawn Sanatarium, Jacksonville, at the age of 73 years.

Deceased was born at Nortonville April 16, 1887, a son of Edward C. and Rachel Cain Spencer. He was married to Daisy Sharp, who preceded him in death May 4, 1948.

He is survived by four children, Mrs. Wm. McDonald of Murrayville, Wesley Spencer of Jacksonville, Mrs. Marshall Hunter of Iowa City, Iowa, and Curtis Spencer of Waverly; and two brothers, Earl Spencer of Manchester and Rev. Wm. H. Spencer of Jacksonville.

He was a member of the Youngblood Baptist church.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Youngblood Baptist church, Nortonville, with Rev. Ward Spencer officiating, assisted by Rev. Lee Anderson.

Rev. and Mrs. Vale Walkington sang "In the Garden" and "Going Down the Valley", with Mrs. Lloyd Sorrels as accompanist.

The pallbearers were Edward Travis, Henry Jackson, Vernor Vandover, Norris Bracewell, Lionel Seymour and Byron Waters.

The flowers were cared for by grandchildren of the deceased, Betty, Brenda, Barbara, Bonnie and Wilbur Spencer, of Waverly.

Interment was in Youngblood Cemetery.
