Mary Winnifred Claussen
1919-1999

Mary Winifred Claussen, 80, of Jacksonville, died Friday evening, Sept. 17, 1999 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

She was born on March 17, 1919 near Franklin, the daughter of John and Zora Seymour Ryan. She married Wendell Wayne Claussen, and he preceded her in death on July 13, 1958.

She is survived by a son, James W., and a daughter, Judith Z. Powell, both of Jacksonville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Ryan and Jack Ryan; two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Irene Shanahan.

Mrs. Claussen worked at Hertzberg New Method Book Bindery in Jacksonville, where she was a collator, retiring in 1984 after 28 years. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour and was active in, and a past treasurer of, the Laborers Home Community Center. She liked crafts, counted cross stitch and enjoyed cooking. She especially enjoyed her children and their families.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Our Saviour, with burial at Youngblood Cemetery in Nortonville. Friends may call after noon Monday at the Cody & Son Memorial Home. After a prayer service there at 6 p.m., family will meet with friends until 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the Church of Our Saviour.
